If you’re sitting on the fence, wondering how you can cut fuel costs but unsure if a hybrid car would fit your needs, then Toyota Canada has a solution for you – The Hybridizer.

The Hybridizer is an online educational tool that allows Canadians to compare a conventional gasoline powered vehicle to a hybrid to a plug-in hybrid to an electric vehicle. At www.hybridizer.ca, users can see how the four types of vehicles interact on long road trips, weekend getaways or during the daily grind, allowing the visitor to choose one car type and see how much fuel is used and even if it is able to handle each preset scenario.

The Hybridizer tool shows drivers what fuel or electricity charging costs they would face, as well as charging times and total emissions.

Toyota Canada is also hosting a Hybridizer contest, in which five consumers have a chance to test a plug-in Prius for a week. The contest runs through April 31.

“The Hybridizer tool gives Canadians the opportunity to experience how a hybrid or electric vehicle can fit into their lives,” says Stephen Beatty, Chief Environmental Officer at Toyota Canada.

The contest, which starts today and runs until April 31, will offer five lucky winners the opportunity to drive a 2012 Prius Plug-In Hybrid vehicle (PHV) for a week. Entries are submitted via the Hybridizer website, requiring an explanation as to why the entrant should drive a Prius Plug-In Hybrid.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid allows users to drive on electric power for up to 25 km at speeds up to 100 km/h, and can be recharged in just three hours through a regular household outlet.
