Owners of Chevrolet Volts and Nissan Leafs are familiar with the mobile applications available to them through the manufacturer to make their electric vehicle experience more complete, but there’s also an aftermarket application.

Xatori, creators of PlugShare, the nation’s largest electric vehicle charging network, has introduced GreenCharge, an iOS application that works with compatible vehicles such as Volt and Leaf to allow users to view real time battery data and to share the environmental and monetary benefits of owning an electric vehicle.

“I’ve talked to too many people who have been confused about the benefits and operating costs of an electric vehicle,” said Forrest North, CEO of Xatori Inc. “We built GreenCharge to let EV owners understand their cars and educate others on the true environmental and monetary benefits of driving an electric vehicle.”

The application is available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch for $9.99 from iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/app/greencharge/id480215136). Xatori pegs that cost as the average cost of charging an electric car for a week. It also claims GreenCharge is the first and only app to connect driving data with local energy pricing in order to give personalized data about the cost of operating the vehicle.

Post drivinginformation includes daily, weekly, and monthly driving broken down by mileage and costs, and the ability to share theinformation on Twitter and Facebook. Owners can also see the environmental impact of driving, in terms of carbon offset.
