2013 Nissan NV200Global vehicle joins North American lineup

Nissan is downsizing its NV commercial van for North America, bringing the “right-sized” NV200 to the U.S. and Canada for 2013. The automaker made the announcement at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.

The NV200 is being billed by Nissan as a “compact, efficient alternative to … larger, less fuel-efficient vehicles” and is currently sold in over 40 countries.

Due to safety regulations, the body of the NV200 has been extended by 200 mm for North America, allowing for better cargo-carrying capacity compared to the NV200s sold in other countries.

The cargo area includes plenty of utility features, from six available floor mounted cargo hooks, to standard integrated mounting points, which allow installation of racks and shelves without drilling into the sidewalls. The latter feature helps avoid the possibility of leaks and rusting.

The cargo doors open in a 60/40 split and include two opening positions (90 and 180 degrees). The tall interior cargo height and low floor height make loading and unloading cargo easier.

Up front the cockpit offers a centre console that’s large enough to hold a laptop or several hanging file folders. It also includes a pen/pencil tray, CD holder, and dual cupholders. The passenger seat folds down, making for a worktop station or extra space to store longer items in the vehicle, and gets an underseat storage tray.

The driver’s seat is 6-way adjustable with lumbar support and an armrest, with outboard vinyl wear patches. Standard features include windows with an auto up/down feature, and a 12-volt power outlet on the instrument panel. An available 12-volt power point can be equipped in rear of centre console.

Add-on features include a navigation system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, rearview camera and telematics pre-wiring.

“The Nissan NV200 is designed as a durable work tool, with features such as the seating wear patches, low-effort sliding side doors and wide-opening rear doors,” said Michael Colleran, Regional Vice President of Field Sales and Sales Operations, Nissan Canada Inc. “And since we fully understand how vans like this are used in business, it’s also a very pleasant vehicle to drive and use as a mobile office.”

A 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine can be found under the hood. It’s mated with an Xtronic continuously variable transmission to help maximize fuel efficiency. An Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) are standard, and the NV200 uses electric power-assisted steering. Fifteen-inch steel wheels and 15-inch high-load all-season tires both come standard.

The NV200 will come in two trim levels – S and SV – with the SV model adding features such as heated outside mirrors, power door locks with auto-locking feature, remote keyless entry, rear cargo floor mat, and full wheel covers.

The new Nissan NV200 will be manufactured in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
