Chevrolet will be Cruze-ing into the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March showing off a new station wagon bodystyle for its popular compact car.

At 4,675 mm, the station wagon is slightly longer than the two other Cruze models, the sedan and the hatchback, which are 4,510 mm and 4,597 mm long, respectively. With the rear seats folded, the Cruze station wagon has nearly 1,500 litres of cargo space.

No less than five engines will be available to owners. They include the current 1.6-litre and 1.8-litre gasoline engines, a new 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, and two diesel variants – a new 1.7-litre and an improved 2.0-litre.

General Motors says there are no current plans to bring the new model to North America. The Cruze sedan is the only model currently available in Canada and the United States.

“The Cruze station wagon caters to an important market segment. It ticks all the boxes for European drivers in terms of distinctive design, dynamic driving, space and economy,” said Chevrolet Europe President and Managing Director Susan Docherty.

The station wagon also sees interior and exterior styling changes that help set it apart from its sedan and hatchback siblings. It gets a remodeled front fascia, modified headlamp interiors and fog lamps and new wheel styles. The interior gets refinements to the centre console, as well as more seat finishes.

GM says new Cruzes are equipped with keyless entry, along with a push button ignition. Chevrolet’s new MyLink infotainment system will also be included in higher trim levels in the summer of 2012.

No hatchback, wagon, or diesel for Canada? Yeah, great thinking there GM! Ever tried to get a full sized hockey bag and stick in a trunk? It does not work. At least give us a hatchback! I guess there is always the Focus or Elantra or Kia or Audi or…do I need to go on?

Agree with Andy. I’m all set to place an order for a 2.0l diesel wagon (to replace my montana as the kids get older) , then I read “not available in Canada”. GM – you’re losing a customer.

    Comment regarding the Fiat 500.
I tried that car and found it very enjoyable to drive.
The only thing that annoyes me is the fact that you can’t order a Lounge model with heated seats if you want to keep a manual transmission. That paticular model comes with leather seats and here in Canada we need those warm seats. I would gladely pay for that option.($300.00)
