Bombers get their SAM

- June 25th, 2012

It appears the Bomber coaching staff didn’t want to upset one of its star players, so it has named Brandon Stewart as its new strong-side linebacker.

Jonathan Hefney made it crystal clear on Sunday that he wanted no part of the position, and 24 hours later Stewart is the man.

Here’s is head coach Paul LaPolice on Stewart being the one who will replace Clint Kent, who, if you missed it over the weekend, has signed with the Edmonton Eskimos.

In other news, kick returner Chad Simpson suffered a leg injury on Sunday and didn’t practise on Monday. He will be evaluated further.

Defensive end Jason Vega has an ankle issue and didn’t practise on Monday, although he is expected to play in the season-opener on Friday night in Vancouver.

Finally, cornerback Deon Beasley has a hip problem that is expected to keep him out of Friday’s game, although his inclusion on the 42-man roster was unlikely anyway.
