Bombers release four

- June 21st, 2012

The trimming has begun in Bomberville, and the first victim was no surprise.

It was said all along that punter Eric Wilbur would really have to be something special if he were going to knock Mike Renaud out of his job. Wilbur is American, and they usually have to do both the punting and placekicking if they’re going to get a roster spot.

He was unable to do so, missing 37- and 29-yard field goals on Wednesday, and that’s why he was one of four to get his walking papers on Thursday.

The others who got pink slips were third-round draft choice Giovanni Aprile, a safety who’s headed back to Queen’s University for his final year of school, receiver-returner Jeremy Blount and Canadian offensive lineman Adam Rogers.

The Bombers have 13 more players they must release or put on an injured list before Saturday at 9 p.m. Expect more cuts on Friday and the finalization of the practice roster on Saturday.
