Well, I’m back. Read a few books over my long weekend. I also spent some time at the book store.
A few months ago, I was browsing through the South Keys Chapters when I found a book that looked really interesting. I had never heard of the author or the book but it was clear that the praise on the back cover was legitimate. Of course, I didn’t write it down.
So one day last week I headed back to the store and started at one end of the fiction section and worked my way to the end. About halfway through, a young woman, perhaps still in high school, asked if I needed help. I told her what I was doing but I had no expectations that she could help me since I had so little information. Male author, writing in the 40s or 50s. Not much to go on. I probably spent an hour there.
The next day, I headed out to a different Chapters location and spent about an hour combing through the fiction section. Still couldn’t find the book.
Finally, on the weekend, I headed back to South Keys and started looking. I had made one run through and decided to do one more thorough check. I probably handled more books than a sales rep that day.
And then it happened. I couldn’t believe I had found the book. So here it is:
Under the Volcano by Malcom Lowry
I’ll leave it up to you to discover him just like I did.
