2 even more excellent reasons than usual to go to Call the Office on Friday (ie. today)

Kathy-Ann “Katz” Basic as seen on Facebook page Celebrating Katz. JBNBlog is assuming this fine looking female flipping the bird & looking great is Katz.

My thoughts & prayers are with the family & friends of the late Kathy-Ann “Katz” Basic, queen of the London punk scene. I am not sure Katz & I met but from the number of familiar names listed as going on the Facebook page, we must have been at a show or two at the same time . . . her friends are gathering at Call the Office today (Friday) at 4 p.m. to celebrate her remarkable life. Tony Lima is to be tending bar from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m. it is said.

Having lost my mother earlier this year & sharing the recent loss of Rosemary Chunn, mother to my brother-in-law Ian Chunn, with Ian & his family, I was deeply moved by a Facebook posting by Kathy’s son, C’regg. Our mothers were all cared for at Parkwood late in their lives.

C’regg, I was fortunate in having my mother with me until her 80s & she found a peaceful end a few weeks after leaving Parkwood where she had rehabbed so well. Since then, we have experienced tremendous love & support from so many of her friends. We know Mom is missed by so many . . . it has helped with our healing, knowing the love goes on. If you can’t feel that yet — and it may be you can’t because Katz was so young — I believe you will. You have an army with you & around you & they love Katz & you.

Here are some words from C’regg Soho Basic:

i understand people in other city’s declining, but people that live in the city n dont do shit all except sit on the computer all i gotta say is fuck you. she woulda been there for you! im not gunna apologize for my words cuz it’s how i feel! love you mom ♥

Here is Kathy-Ann Basic’s obituary:

BASIC, Kathy-Ann (Katz) – After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister Kathy-Ann in her 46th year on Monday June 25, 2012. Loving mother of C’regg Basic, survived by siblings Kelly (de Boer) McLean, Anita (de Boer) Valenti and Fred Basic and predeceased by brother Reg de Boer. Wonderful Aunt to Wanda Hallett, RJ de Boer, Shelley (Sims) de Boer, Josh de Boer, Nick de Boer, Katrina Valenti and Frank Valenti. Thank you to the Parkwood Palliative Staff for all their care and support. Kathy-Ann (Katz) was a truly unique and special person. She will be greatly missed and remembered fondly by all her family and friends. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Semper Katz. Semper Katz.

alcohollys

JBNBlog believes this fab live action shot has Sarah Beth, left, & Tanya Candler of the JRMA titlists the Alcohollys rawkin somewhere. The Alcohollys play Call the Office on Friday.

Without being flippant, JBNBlog also wanted to salute to an event later on the same day at Call the Office . . . what JBNBlog likes to think of as an AlcoWallys first-time ever gig. Life & art confound death & here are the details on a truly confounding (in a great way) show on Friday. Here is a note from Fast Eddy (is that right?) of the Terminal Wallys . . . JBNBlog is honoured to learn The Free Press is regarded as ” (his) fancy, schmancy newspaper” btw:

Hello Mr. Reaney, my old friend
This Friday the 13th at call the office there will be an interesting show. The Alcohollys are playing with (the) Terminal Wallys. Dana (singer of the Alcohollys) and Phil (bassist of the Terminal Wallys) are also celebrating their wedding anniversary on this night. The local zeros the Terminal Wallys have been disbanded for a number of years now but have been forced to reunite for this one show by the stern demand of Dana. Phil and Dana have never played a show featuring their two bands and this Friday it’s going to happen.
Maybe you could advertise this show in your fancy shmancy paper or maybe it’s too short notice. Either way, you have a great day.
Ed, of the Terminal Wallys

Here is some information from Facebook:

Greetings! I know this is kind of off topic but I
was wondering which blog platform are you using for this site?

I’m getting fed up of WordPress because I’ve had issues with hackers and I’m looking at options for another platform. I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

Not sure if I can help on blog platform front . . . but any suggestions for Nannette out there?
