Mindful of how important the honour was to my late father, JBNBlog is always happy to see the latest Order of Canada appointments.
There are scores of great Canadians on the 2012 list . . . two names jumped out on a first read for me today. William Aide taught music at Western c. 1974-1978. His students included (I am pretty sure) Tomson Highway, then on a career path as a classical pianist. Western was a lively place in the 1970s, etc.
Kildare Dobbs was a friend of my parents back in the day. As a book editor at Macmillan in the 1950s, he would likely have been on the scene for The Killdeer & Other Plays and A Suit of Nettles, two of dad’s GG winners. Dad & mom would also probably have known him through CBC Radio, Tamarack Review etc.
A salute to these two ace Canadians & the other 89 new appointments. Hooray.
The media release follows for background, more names you might recognize & cheer, etc.
