Grooves co-owner David Clarke and local musician Blair Whatmore, who also works at the local independent record store, flip through some vinyl albums. Grooves will be participating in Independent Record Store day April 16th (2011), celebrating with live bands, contests, and limited edition vinyl records.
In looking over CKLW’s All-Time Top 300, JBNBlog recently wondered aloud who in the world would pick Louie, Louie as the No. 2 hit of all time.
Well. Ahem. It turns out Louie, Louie is the favourite single of fine Londoner & brilliant music mind Dave Clarke . . . a garage rock fan who knows a lot more about these things than JBNBlog. Dave also mentioned Dirty Water and 96 Tears as being among his personal faves & they’re in the Top 20 as voted on by CKLW fans back in 1967.
In an interview following his retirement from Grooves, Dave was asked if he’d voted back in the day . . . he didn’t think so. But JBNBlog vows to send him a copy of the Top 300 because it’s so obviously charged with garage rock wonders he knows & loves.
Meanwhile, the c0-star in ace Chris Montanini photograph here, Blair Whatmore, is expected to take on Dave’s used LP guru role as Grooves grooves on as one of the ohsogood places in London to shop for music.
The march through the CKLW Top 300 will continue here, as soon as JBNBlog gets over his Louie, Louie wonderment.
