In an extended & lovely shout-out on Monday at BudGdns, Metric’s Emily Haines & Jimmy Shaw saluted London’s own, Tim Glasgow, for his contributions to their art.

Here is a YouTube video of that remarkable moment.

Now, here is a flashback to Tim in early 2002, when he was already making soundwaves heard around the world. The celebrity judges are looking for the first correct T-answer filling in the blank in this #ldnont history mystery. The …. indicate where the word was taken out so as to keep it a bit mysterious.

Here comes 2002:

Tim Glasgow’s business card used to say “guitar scientist and digital audio chemist” and that chemistry gets him recording credit from Sonic Youth.
The band started off as a big angry noise on the New York avant scene (and now) Sonic Youth has gone on to record big hits and even see its cartoon self perform on The Simpsons’ TV series Homerpalooza episode.
Fitting right in at the band’s Manhattan studio is Glasgow, a recording and tech wizard who learned it all from those . . . . sounds he first heard in old Kent County.
Yep, . . . sounds. Glasgow loved that . . . . drone as a kid. Now, as a sought-after guy who fixes music in his computer, he loves that memory.
“When I got a synthesizer (as a teen in the 1980s), that was the first thing I did, make t—— noises with it. That whole idea of listening to how farm equipment sounded taught me how to listen and that made it so I can do what I do now. That’s really weird,” the (then)  31-year-old laughs, but seriously.
He’d go back “in a second” to those days on his dad’s tomato farming operation between Wallaceburg and Dresden off the Glasgow Line by the Sydenham. But then he’d have to give up the biz’s non-tomato attractions.

  1. Sounds Like a Flash Back to the Nile Spasm Band in the 70′s

Tim did rawk with the Nihilist Spasm Band . . . but that’s not what the celeb judges are looking for this time. Think tomato fields if that helps.
