As someone who has hoped there would be a hometown honour for Garth Hudson, JBNBlog is delighted to pass along this e-mail from Maud Hudson.  It should happen on June 27 at the London Music Awards, organized by Scene Magazine, when Garth Hudson is to receive a lifetime of achievement award. Appropriately, it will be at the LPL’s Wolf Performance Hall where Garth & Maud Hudson recorded an excellent album almost 10 (!) years ago.
A wide-ranging group of people, me included, had expressed interest in doing something for Garth Hudson here on Aug. 2, which will be his 75th birthday. The Scene Magazine initiative, for me, takes precedence as the first chance for one grand celebration. Best wishes to all involved. Following Maud’s e-mail of good news is a slightly edited version of the e-mail I sent to Maud & those wonderful Londoners & friends of Garth Hudson who responded to support the Aug. 2 possibility. My apologies to anyone I’ve missed in that group . . . & to anyone who might be confused by this welcome outburst of Garthlove.
Previous hints/suggestions here to city hall & others who might be in a position to add formal recognition to any Garth Hudson ceremony have never produced an earnest response . . . so key to the city types, take note, Garth Hudson & Sister Maud Hudson, his soulmate of many years) are to be here on June 27.
It’s a big deal.

Dear James,
I hope you already know of this. I want to discuss our visit soon … after we get a few things out of the way.
I can’t find much advertising yet. Bret Downe at Scene invited us.
Get ready for a visit. Talk to you very soon!
Love you like crazy!

I am sharing the news with many who will also be happy to know about Scene Magazine publisher Bret Downe’s announcement and the June 27 date.

A hometown honour for you is good news & Scene Magazine’s London Music Awards can be counted on to provide a perfect setting for the occasion.
A number of people here (including me) have expressed interest in honouring Garth on his 75th birthday — but it’s my belief the June 27 event will provide plenty of circumstance & pomp & fun without waiting until August. Bret Downe may soon hear from some of those people who would like to help if they can.
London does indeed love both of you like crazy right back & thanks again for sharing such good news.
