My thoughts & prayers are with the family & friends of Phyllis Anderson.

Phyllis was a great champion of music — & a fine musician herself — in London. She would drop off material about concerts at The Free Press & encourage me to listen to new people on the scene. We would see Phyllis at the Aroma restaurant where she helped (I am guessing about the details) line up the musical bill of fare there.

One Valentine’s feast with the Forest City Violins playing from spots overlooking the dining area was most magical.

Phyllis died Wednesday. Her enthusiasm, good nature, attention to detail & kindness will be missed. I would be honoured to help in any way with the memorial award in her name her family is establishing to celebrate her passion for music.

The lfpress.com and Free Press  obituary follows. The visitation is today (Sunday) at 2 p.m. and the funeral is Monday at 2 p.m.

ANDERSON, Phyllis (nee Kohl) – Lived life large, but left us on Wednesday, September 5, 2012. A London gal with strong rural roots, she was a pianist, teacher, artist, community volunteer and loyal friend. Loving mother of Lori Anderson (Charles Merredew) of Ottawa and Suzanne Anderson (Patrick Rocca) of Toronto. Dear sister of Maxine Mackle (Tracey) of Connecticut and the late Don Kohl (Elsie) of Mississauga. Special aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews in Ontario and south of the border. Honorary mom to many. Visitation on Sunday September 9 (2- 4 p.m.) at the JAMES A. HARRIS FUNERAL HOME, 220 St. James Street (at Richmond). Funeral service Monday, September 10 (2:00 p.m.) at Metropolitan United Church, 468 Wellington Street. Interment to follow at Birr United Cemetery. A reception in celebration of her life will be held at her second home, Aroma Mediterranean Restaurant, 717 Richmond Street (at Piccadilly), on Monday at 4 p.m. In recognition of her passion for music, the family is initiating the Phyllis Anderson Memorial Award. Donations can be sent to the Kiwanis Music Festival of London, PO Box 5008, London, ON, N6A 6H8, and will also be gratefully accepted at the visitation and reception. 11934251
