Rich Greven: An angry fan speaks

- September 7th, 2010

Having been through the experience a few times myself, I empathize with anyone who loses a job/is downsized/demoted/fired by a London media business.
So my thoughts are with Rich Greven. I wrote briefly about Rich Greven’s not being on the air as EZ Rock 97.5 reformatted. The story was in Saturday’s LFP.
If it is any consolation to Rich, I received a number of detailed, thoughtful e-mails on the Labour Day weekend. All were warmly sympathetic to the man who has worked in London radio for more than 25 years.
I am using just one of them here. It happens to be the angriest. Patrick Rumsey’s is also the one e-mailer asking to be on the record. (Others are welcome to do so, too.)
For the record, I listened to the first few minutes of the new format — a little pop, a little rock, a lot of fun & a song about getting the party started — on Labour Day Monday at 8 a.m.
The format isn’t aimed at me. But those who are steering the Astral empire should hear from listeners like Patrick who have made the radio station part of their life.

Over to you, Patrick, slightly edited by me:

I am calling for a ‘BOYCOTT’ of EZ ROCKs advertisers. It is deplorable the way they dismissed Rich Greven from the station after his dedication and commitment to them over the years.

They need to be reminded “We own the airwaves”, they are only granted a lisc to broadcast.

On their own web site, www.975ezrock.com their OWN polling shows 67.5% of listeners DO NOT LIKE the new format/music.
. . .
I am willing to go “On the record” for this.

It’s a shame….after years of involvement in the London community…to just be discarded this way. I’d invite readers to join our Facebook group “Thanks Rich, Elaine and Andy….The Best Morning Crew Ever” and leave your notes of appreciation to this great trio.

  2. ginagardener says:

I think this is just terrible too. I listened for a few minutes this morning and wasn’t impressed at all with the new format. Are Elaine and Andy gone too?

  3. Shirley Capstick says:

I am not happy with the decision that Astral made “to change the format” I do not think they thought about their listeners at all, at least not the ones that were tuning in…maybe they are thinking of the listeners that they didn’t have!!! Anyway I won’t be listening to Q97.5, you have lost me as a regular customer.

I say “Good Luck” to Rich Greven and tell him he will be missed by many.

  4. Kelly Whelan says:

I listened to Rich and Elaine on the way home from work, an hour plus drive, and always enjoyed their style of programming. Informative, funny and entertaining. What more could one ask for? A regrettable business decision in my opinion. Best of luck Rich, Elaine and Andy.

  5. Pauline Yorke says:

I was in shock this morning when my radio came on at 5:30 am.
The reason I listened to EZRock was the personalities – Rich and Elaine and Andy were my mornings.
They ARE THE BEST MORNING CREW EVER!
I will miss you three greatly. You entertained me, made me laugh, gave informative newscasts and opinions.
This is not my radio station any more.

  6. Barb says:

Where do those of us who liked the morning trio now go. If you know another station that has the same good mix of news, opinion and all around fun let me know where to turn my dial. 97.5 just threw away the best, I hope they are regretting their decision right about now.

  7. james.reaney says:

Thanks, Pauline. As you can see, you are not alone.

  8. james.reaney says:

I know your comments can only be a boost to Rich and the others. Write any time.

  9. james.reaney says:

Rich is certainly missed on the air . . . thanks for adding your voice.

  10. james.reaney says:

I am not certain of who is out & who is in . . . anybody have an accurate sense of what the changes entail & the people involved.

  11. james.reaney says:

As I’ve said in other replies, this kind of support means a great deal. Thanks for helping lead the way on Facebook.

  12. james.reaney says:

Good question. Where would you fans turn? Any suggestions on the London dial?

  13. Suzan says:

I too have tuned out 97.5 for good. They had a great morning team and Rich and Elaine were the only reason I put up with the constant commercials. There is no reason to listen now. For better music and NO commercials, try CBC Radio 2 at 100.5 FM. At least until common sense prevails and they bring back Rich, Elaine, and Andy.

  14. Brenda Smits says:

I was also in shock when I listened to my radio this am.I thought they were possibly on vacation.I also listen to the radio when I drive into London From St. Thomas. The 8.00 am news report was totally lacking of information.Sorry to see you go Elaine,Rich and Andy. This is also not my radio station anymore.

  15. james.reaney says:

I do listen to CBC Radio Two myself. It is still going through its own upheaval with the classical music fans who will never accept the Canadian pop, rock, roots etc. sounds that are part of its morning show . . . & that’s been how many years?

  16. james.reaney says:

By this point, I should say I am astonished . . . v. grateful as a blogger . . . but astonished to hear from so many passionate people. If you had asked me, I would have said Sonny Rollins turning 80 was the day’s big deal. Clearly, Londoners love their radio families.

  17. Patti Landry says:

Unbelievable, is all I can say…I was an avid listener to the morning show and had all my dials (car/home) preset to listen to 97.5…no longer will I be listening to this station…they were definitely not thinking of this listener when they changed the format…I wish Rich nothing but the best…you ARE the best!

  18. Mark Bogacki says:

I know that media corporations try to think ahead for what they feel is appropriate for their industry, yet I cannot think they knew Rich Greven like his listeners do. Although I do not listen as much now, I recall listening a number of years ago to Mr. Greven on mornings prior to the start of school. His involvement in the community, for which I have had an opportunity to see, cannot be discounted. That’s my take: someone who loves their community can only help the organization to which they serve. All the best to you, Mr. Greven as well as Elaine and Andy. Perhaps the CRTC needs to rethink who owns what in the media. What do they know of community (I would like to hear it)?

  19. Tracey says:

This was the only morning show worth listening to now there is nothing I always made sure to be listening at 7:30am to catch Andy the day will never be the same now, Rich And Eliane were a great pair they always make you laugh you will be greatly missed. I hope the station goes under and I hope some other station will pick them up.

  20. Chris says:

    Sad day today.

I could not believe my ears as I listened to the radio this morning. I enjoyed Rich, Elaine and Andy.

As listeners we were not given the chance to say good-bye to our friends. RIch, Elaine and Andy deserved better.

I will no longer listen to Q97.5FM. You lost a faithful listener and supporter.

Rich, Elaine and Andy all the best!

    Chris

  21. It seems that Shauna Rae has also been jarred over at Newstalk 1290-CJBK-AM (the 10 am to 12 noon time slot).

  22. Kevin says:

Alarm came on this morning as it usually does about 5:55am as I await the news. Crapola!!! pretty well covers it. Will be changing over now that Rich, Elaine and Andy are gone. Always enjoyed Andy’s news reports and his twists on the news and Elaine’s thoughts of the day. As per usual, someone always finds away to screw something up that is enjoyed by many

  23. Carol Plumb says:

Rich, Elaine and Andy made an ordinary morning come alive. Their quick wit, comical jibes at one another and Rich’s contagious laughter were all worth waiting for, as I started my day. I enjoyed their show wheter I was cooking in the kitchen or driving to work. They hosted countless charitable events raising thousands of dollars for so many causes because they helped we the listeners, to understand the importance of giving something back. Rich Greven, Elaine and Andy are truly, kind, good hearted, down to earth honest people that their listeners could trust.

I briefly listened to the new show. I was saddened and disappointed by how impersonal it all seemed.

    What a shame.

  24. Ann Stevens says:

I was so disheartened and shell shock this morning to tune in to my usual radio station 97.5 and not find Rich and Elaine to start a new school year with my boys. I anxiously awaited the news at 7 to find how to dress them, jacket or not, and Andy was not there to tell me. They used to have the most information local news and weather, and it flew past without a moments notice….. The news was barely 2 minutes worth. No warning, just a new format without our favourite morning crew. Now is just like any other radio station devoid of personality…..quiess I must become a teen again and turn on 103.1!!!!

  25. jackie says:

I will not be lilstening to 97.5 anymore either. What a shame. And what’s with Ryan Seacrest? Are they crazy?

  26. Patrick J. Rumsey says:

I noticed on EZ Rocks OWN Facebook Page they are deleting the “negative” comments. What a classless organisation.

  27. Vicki Walt says:

I cannot believe this! I couldn’t understand why Q97′s music was so annoying the last few days! I now find out that Rich is gone!!! He was the ONLY reason I listened in the first place. I will never listen to that station again. Rich & Elaine made my morning. They made listening fun! What in the world is wrong with that manager?? And the news…..well that wasn’t even worth listening to. When I finally realized it was the news …..it was all over!!! They have made a big mistake and I am telling all my friends and colleagues to STOP listening.

  28. james.reaney says:

Don’t know about crazy. Ryan would not work for me.

  29. james.reaney says:

Impersonal is the word that jumps out at me. Like so many, you miss people who were your friends, who were there for you.

  30. james.reaney says:

    Your fire inspires.

  31. james.reaney says:

I would miss her too … as someone I know. Shauna, are you out there?

  32. james.reaney says:

As listeners we were not given the chance to say good-bye to our friends. RIch, Elaine and Andy deserved better.

That sentiment would sum up a lot of what is being said here. Eloquent. Caring.

  33. james.reaney says:

Another station? Anybody know anything about that?

  34. james.reaney says:

First mention of the CRTC . . . & the importance of community.
    This is eloquent & powerful.

  35. james.reaney says:

Shock. Sadness. Not my station . . . these themes turn up again & again. Thanks for sharing them. All of you.

  36. Paul says:

Nothing lasts forever, and Rich has had a hell of a run here in London. I am sad to see him go, but confident that he will land a new position in short order…maybe not in London or another major market, but someplace where he can apply his talents and charisma, and be appreciated.

Astral has every right to adjust its format to remain competitive and that sometimes means changing personalities as well. Let’s not get silly and boycott advertisers as some writers have proposed. How is that going to help Greven or anyone else? There are lots of stations that will take the advertising dollars if they are not welcome in this station.

Take a deep breath folks. Thousands of people lose their jobs every year in this region. Rich will be missed, but the world will go on.

  37. H. R. Hertz says:

“The new sound” of EZ Rock. Someone should have listened carefully around them before making this ridiculous decision. A “new sound” … don’t think so. It is being done over repeatedly by other local stations. Rich & Elaine were unique, EZ to listen to… not this. We will not be listening to this station again or supporting it in any manner.

Give us a break. “VIP”, “Mile High Club” & “the new sound”… like thats not being overdone already.

    Nothing “NEW” about their approach.

  38. Gayle Cumming says:

Elaine, Andy and Rich…you were the only reason I listened to Q97.5 I will be switching stations…If it’s not broke don’t fix it…..

  39. michele says:

no more rich elaine and andy, then no more 97.5 for me. I did listen for half an hour this morning and all I could think of was why would then lose the morning show for this crap.

  40. ray says:

Change happens…understood and good luck to Mark. But can someone just say what has happened to Rich and Elaine please? They have become part of our London mornings for so long, a lot of us just want to know…perhaps just call it “closure”. C’mon Astral, have some courtesy. Just a blurb in the LFP on the long weekend??? Best of luck to Rich and Elaine! And thanks for all the wonderful mornings. :)

  41. ray says:

As above, join the FB group…

“Thanks Rich, Elaine and Andy….The Best Morning Crew Ever”

  42. The Razor says:

Sorry to see Rich get the hook. I never listened to his show, but I know the man and he’s a good guy. I’m sure he’ll land on his feet at another station/media outlet. As for Shauna Rae, no great loss there. What I would like to know, is WHY Rich was let go and why the station changed formats. Problems with their ratings? Older listeners? Rawk on Mr. Jimmy!

  43. Brian says:

Long overdue..I listened to them prior to Q and followed them over to Q..over the years it was the same boring crap..Andy always a great news cast. Elaine a grumpy sour person. This is the best thing for Rich as he will now go on to better things..

    Fresh FM for me

  44. Sharlene says:

Tried to listen to the new format. I just can’t do it. The news segment is certainly not informative. I will now need to find some other station to listen to…to keep in touch with the outside world while at work. Sad.

  45. B ARNSBY says:

JUST TOTAL DISGUST…RICH, ELAINE AND ANDY WERE THE BEST PART OF Q97.5 ! I LISTENED EVERY MORNING ON MY WAY TO WORK..WAS A GREAT WAY TO START OFF MY DAY ! I HOPE THE STATION GOES UNDER NOW. JUST TOTAL DISGUST !!!!!!!!

  46. Tom and Betty Clark says:

We are long time listeners of Rich and the gang and cant understand managements thinking on this fiasco. The best morning team ever even tho Andy did get carried away occasionally with his hyperbole. So long you guys and good luck and good by 97.5.. Ya messed up good this time. And tell the new guy to stop trying to immitate Rich. He doesnt cut it.

    Tom and Betty Clark

  47. Ruth and Dave Broughton says:

The top morning shows in Ontario all have formats with personalities like Rich and Elaine and Andy so where does this new format come from? We are left with no real choice and nobody to get us going in the morning. And surely they could have handled it better so we could have at least said goodby to our freinds of many years. I think 97.5 stands for the IQ of the management that are making these decisions.

  48. Bob says:

Rich is gone, I guess Elaine & Andy are as well. My wife had our aalrm clock set to this station every morning.Andy would come on , he talked so fast I’m not sure what he said , he seemed to be very opioniated .Then Rich & Elaine would put there 2 words in also opininated. I didn’t always agree, but listened with respect . Rich actually seemed to express a grumpy old man attitude, I loved it I also have grown to be a grunpy old man , love it or leave it.My wife and I are no longer listening to this station .They can take this station and shove it up there arse . I’m not going to be spoon feed someone’s idea of entertainment . I’m also actually considering shutting down my TV as well.. I guess its finally time to take some action myself. Thanks Astral media I’ve been sitting on the fence to long . I also really really hope you lose lots of money you heartless bastards.

  49. Dorian and Wayne says:

Rich is no longer with Q97.5 and we have not heard what happen to Elaine. I did hear Andy on the news on CJBK 1290. This was our morning start – the jokes, the games, interesting tidbits out in the world and of course Andy’s rant were a welcome to the morning. We now have changed our wake up radio to a different station. Astral Media are you going to change the format to CJBK that is what I listen to on my way to work and home. Are you going to get rid of Steve Garrison, Pete James and Ryan Spence . In the afternoon it is a joy to listen to Mike Stubbs and Al Coombs. If it is not broke why fix it. Sometimes management doesn’t always know best – give them the higher pay cheque and they become the know all’s. Another couple not listening to Q97.5. Astral Media your lost – you may have thought the ratings were down before – you haven’t seen nothing after this decsision.

Best of Luck to Rich, Elaine and Andy whereever you are

  50. Colleen says:

I agree with all the comments thus far. My radio was ALWAYS on 97.5 and I counted on Rich and Elaine being there to greet me when my alarm hit 7am. I have now switched radio stations and will not be back. I gave 97.5 a day to prove they are still the great station they were prior to this change and they failed – the music isn’t the same, the newscast is a scant 3 or 4 stories lasting maybe 1 minute and I no longer feel up to date on what’s happening when I wake up each day. Rich and Elaine were unrivalled in their entertainment quality and I am very disappointed to have had to switch stations. I’m wondering how long it will take advertizers to realize what’s happened to this listening audience.

  51. P Meldrum says:

I am a 30 year old that listened faithfully each morning to the Morning Crew, They were Fabulous, I also will not be tuning in to Q97.5 any longer, they were my only reason for listening each morning – Informative, Funny and Entertaining.
What is a Radio Station without news and inciteful info to make you use your brain, while also having a good laugh.

I’m gonna miss you Rich, Elaine and Andy, if you guys have your own station or move somewhere else, please let the city know, we would follow you anywhere
Even young people don’t always want Trendy and New, give them a raise and bring back the Crew!

  52. Kim says:

I am one of the majority. I am truly missing my mornings with Rich and Elaine. I am also missing Andy’s spin on things, along with “Bits & Bites”. As for the newscasts, please tell her to speak a little slower. It is quite annoying to listen to something that is being “speed read”. I thought that the news was to be informative…not a blurr of words. I like many, will more than likely make the switch. Good Luck to Rich, Elaine and Andy! Sure gonna miss ya!

  53. Erik says:

I woke up yesterday, turned on 97.5 and assumed the morning crew were on vacation. Now I learn they are gone! I can’t believe it; Rich & Elaine were the best on air duo, and Andy has been a ‘voice of London’ since I was little. I miss his delivery of the news and ‘hit & run’.
I always say: if it isn’t broken, don’t break it, which it appears Astral has done.
I’ll listen to the next station that hires them.

  54. Jeff says:

As much as Rich and Elaine are going to be missed, I think the big picture is also being missed. Think of it like a professional sports franchise, if the team keeps missing the playoffs, changes eventually need to be made and they are not necessarily going to appeal to the die-hard fans, but none the less, change is required.
Having some knowlege of the radio industry, I can see why the change had to come. Radio has a scoring system that is somewhat confusing but quite relied upon in that particular arena. When the ratings get published and certain teams consistantly “miss the playoffs” so to speak, changes need to be made. Ratings tell the story of how many people listen at particular times of the day and in some cases, for how long. If a show consistantly produces low ratings, the big picture needs to be reviewed and disappointment to the die-hard fans is quite often inevitable.
Rich and Elaine are pros and will land on thier feet. I think the comapssion felt by the community for them is wonderful and I know if you give Mark LaPointe a chance, he will find his way into your hearts just the same.

  55. Lynda Finlay says:

I am 53 yrs old and have listened to your station for YEARS….however; I am no longer listening to your station ever again…..I cannot believe you got rid of the guts of your station…..Rich; Elaine & Andy ?? Come on, let’s be serious here…..I hope your ratings plummet; this mistake is going to cost you valuable listeners; or do we not matter ???
They were the BEST morning team I have ever had the priveledge of waking up to…..I am sincerely going to miss them all……they were a part of me……SHAME ON YOU……….

  56. Barb says:

TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED !!!! ( and very mad) in Q97.5 They have lost another loyal listener.

To Rich – Elaine – and Andy …. you will truely be missed by all !! Good luck.

  57. Steph says:

Are you kidding me? What makes all you people radio experts? It was not working. Ratings were down and they had a FANTASTIC run on the radio. Yes, you are upset, but overall the ratings were not good anymore! Listenership was way down and it was time for a revamp. Mark is doing a great job. It is an insult to say he is trying imitate anyone. He is a wonderful radio talent. Enough’s enough, people! Celebrate someone’s success, or just switch stations, but there is NO need for insults. I, for one, will be tuning into 97.5 and am excited for the changes – and yes, I was a loyal listener to Rich and Elaine. I wish them the best as do I wish 97.5 the best in their new format.

  58. Bob says:

They’ve taken away the personalities, the awareness of the community, the useful information and left a void. What on earth does London and area need another station that sounds like so many others for? Bob, Fresh, Q97… all sound the same to me and of no interest. The entire community should be served by the stations on the air here. CBC signals and the News/Talk formats on AM have a place, and so does a signal or two to serve people under 40 or 45 years age. What now for the people aged 45 & over, the group that makes up about half of the population?

  59. Ron Kresky says:

Having just returned from holidays, I turned on the radio (Q97.5) yesterday hoping to hear the familiar voices of Rich and Elaine just like I have done for many, many years. Not hearing them, I thought something was wrong, so I started searching online to find to my dismay that they were no longer there.

    WHAT A SHOCK !!!

Their style, humour and ancedotes were unsurpassable on the radio. Periodically, I tuned into other stations with co-anchor teams, generally while driving in the car or at work. Nobody else could compare to this dynamic duo.
Rich and Elaine – I wish you the best of luck and hope that you end up together on another local station. I, for one, will certainly tune into you guys anytime. Sorry, Q97.5 you have lost this listener for good.

    .

  60. Susan says:

Stop listening Tuesday morning at 6 am and switched my radio..miss Elaine, Rich and Andy! No more ez 97.5 in our home or cars.

  61. Leslie says:

I would agree that it was certainly a disappointment to learn that Rich and Elaine are no longer on the air in the morning. Unfortunately London has little to offer those of us in the 50plus age group. Actually for a city the size of London, the FM radio stations have always been a disappointment. I think that Sirrius/XM radio is far superior to anything London has to offer and may prove to be the competetion despite the cost for this radio programming.

  62. Roland DeMers says:

    TO: Q 97.5-

I know I am only one voice with one set of ears, but your recent move to dump Rich Greven and Elaine Sawyer was wrong. The change in your format is wrong too. If I wanted to listen to rock music I would have stayed listening to FM-96 years ago. Your station in the past has always served as providing good music to play out loud in the background, whether at home or at the office. I am self-employed, accounting & tax and I’ve for years have had my radio dial fixed on only one station, yours.

However, you have forced me to change and if I cannot find a suitable replacment I will just simply play cd’s all the time.

Rich Greven is one of the best at his job in this area and has always been an excellent morning man & when combined with Elaine and Andy Oudman, this just made the start of any day just great & more worthwhile at the same time.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Rich in the past and he has always been a great supporter of local charities & a very generous person and as a representative of your station, nobody in this market area was and is his equal.

I did some research and found this on the internet: “97.5 currently stands as the most listened to station in London, its country sister station BX93 is the second most favoured station.”

Why on earth would you even attempt to mess with success? Is your management that dumb?

In any event, you have made your choice. And I too have made mine for I will not ever listen to your station ever again until Rich, Elaine & Andy are back on the radio. And at the same time, I am going to boycott your sponsors as best I can. Not only for the sponsors for the morning show, but the sponsors for all of your shows. I am currently compiling my list.

And by the way, I know that I am not alone in my feelings, beliefs and in my decision to turn off your station and to boycott your sponsors.

    Roland

  63. Tracey says:

Rich, Elaine and Andy are a brilliant team ! I will miss Elaine’s infectious laughter, their great stories and fantastic music. I can’t even remember how long we have been listening to them…it’s be so long. We will miss them and wish them all the best. Hopefully we will be able to tune into them once again. THANK-YOU RICH, ELAINE AND ANDY!!! We are presently looking for a new station.

  64. Paticia says:

I agree with all that has been said. It was a very different morning on tuesday when the alarm went off at 5:3am.
Have been away on holidays and it was such a surprise not to hear the trio on the radio.
My family and I will see you and good luck in the future. I think that they mad a HUGE mistake and we will be finding a new station to wake up to in the mornings that has some spunk and some persoalitiy to it. Not happy with the new format.
You will be missed Rich, Elaine and Andy.

  65. Maria says:

    Astral Media….shame on you!

I have listened to 97.5 faithfully for the last 23 years. Could you not have taken the high road and informed your loyal listeners of the upcoming changes?

I am tuning your station out forever now and finding another one to listen to.
And I’ll say it again…Shame on you for the handling of this.

  66. B Alsop says:

OK, I used to have my radio tuned to 97.5 in the morning ONLY because I liked the music that was played. I could never see why Rich and Elaine seemd to be so “loved” by everyone. Frankly, I found them annoying and have never heard so much misinformation coming from on air personalities on any other station. Not the kind of information that the world turns on but just plain wrong information about a variety of things. As for Andy, well, it will be nice to hear the news delivered by someone who doesn’t sensationalize every story. And frankly, he just shared too many of his own opinions for someone who calls himself a newsman. Newsmen should be far more impartial than he ever has been.

So, now that the music has changed, I won’t be tuning into 97.5 either. Had it changed while Rich and Elaine were still on, I would have stopped listening then.

I don’t think anyone has to cry too many tears for “poor Rich”. I’m sure that he will do just fine. I have no doubts he was awarded a very attractive buyout.

    The Hawk, here I come.

  67. Gilles Michaud says:

I cannot believe what they have done to 97.5!! It is TERRIBLE!! I have enjoyed this station since moving to London in 2000. To see how Rich and Elaine were involved in the community and how they were dealt with makes me sick. Another corporate decision done with no thought.
I will NEVER listen to this station again. Such a shame…….

  68. Jack Macfie says:

Rich and I go back a long way, though he has no knowledge of it. From tooth fairy clubs, Jean Jacques Go-Fast and testing the effects of alcohol at 7 AM to the wonderful morning team at the Q. He started my day with music (alarm) and kept me on schedule (mornings when trying to awaken was a challenge), and with Elaine and Andy gave me many enjoyable moments going down the road.
    So, good bye, Q.
It was fun. But, you screwed up big with this one.

  69. Virginia Chapman says:

I am appalled at what they have done to Rich and Elaine. I have listened to them every morning and they are the only reason I have stuck with Q97.5. If the powers that be wanted to change, then change the type of music they play – like stop playing the same songs all day long. That is not Rich and Elaines fault. The number one complaint I have heard from co-workers and friends about this radio station, is the repetitiveness.. As for Rich and Elaine, I feel like I have lost one of the family. I enjoyed waking up to you every morning. Now I will have to find a new radio station to wake up to. And I am not the only one. Several co-workers have commented as well and in fact, my boss has even changed his radio station at work and in his car to a new one. He is going to let me know the station so I can check it out. Good luck Rich and Elaine – I will definitely miss you.

  70. Joanne Wilson says:

I must have missed the big announcement but all week I’ve been thinking Rich and Elaine are on holidays and have repeatedly changed the station because I don’t like the new sound – the new choice of music. Now knowing that Rich and Elaine are gone, so am I. I’ll listen to another station and with any luck will be able to tune in and listen to Rich and Elaine once again at another station. I wish Rich, Elaine and Andy all the best – you’re definitely going to be missed!

  71. Linda Quan says:

I miss waking up to Rich, Elaine and Andy every morning. I moved to St. Thomas from Toronto in late 2007 and have listened to this radio station since. Also enjoyed the type of music, but mostly the morning show.

I wish them all well in their new endeavors, you will be greatly missed. I no longer wish to listen to this radio station.

  72. Steve says:

My wife and I faithfully listened to Q97.5 for 15 years as we moved to different locations within broadcasting range. At one point, we modified our reception capacity just so that we didn’t lose our ‘Rich & Elaine, and Andy’ mornings.

We have already entirely abandoned listening to this station after what Astral so abruptly did to them and to all of us listeners. A morning without Rich, Elaine and Andy is like a morning without bacon & eggs, pancakes, oatmeal & coffee, and the rising sunshine.

We are apalled, offended, angry and saddened at the apparent loss of our morning friends and inspiration — Rich Greven and Elaine Sawyer. I say apparent because I was neither informed nor notified about this abrupt change. Is Andy Oudman gone too?

Farewell and Thank-you Rich and Elaine for the thousands of times that you completed our mornings. We weren’t ready to give you up yet.

  73. Steve says:

Steve here again. I suggest that all Londoners who faithfully listened to Rich, Elaine and Andy, should do what they can to emplore Q97.5 advertisers to pull their ads from this station, and also to spread the word to boycott doing business with any business that remains with that station after what Astral so senselessly did to these three and their hundreds of thousands of dedicated listeners. Rest assured that I will be doing my part to see this through unless Astral brings the trio back, as I am related to a frequent business advertiser of the station and will encourage them to pull their ads.

Bad choice Astral. Did you really think that you would make more money by trying to appeal to more Western and Fanshawe students, at the expense of all the other established and permanent area residents, businesses, and listeners? All you had to do was ‘freshen up’ your repertoire of Easy Rock songs and everybody would have been kept pleased.

    SHAME on you Astral !!

  74. Jill Kipfer says:

I am like everyone else…saddened and very disappointed! I have tried since Tuesday to find out on the “new” website if Rich, Elaine & Andy are on holidays. No mention of anything. It is at least refreshing to hear I didn’t miss the announcement that never happened last week! I am of the 50+ club and enjoyed the music and programs on air. Your station played on my desk in our office for years and years but will be silenced shortly as soon as I find some suitable “soft rock” again. You are now no different than all the others I could have chosen…you are not a “music on hold” station anymore. The news in the morning is one long, never ending sentence…stand beside the radio or you’ll miss it! Good luck to Rich, Elaine and Andy and should I ever find them on air again, they will be my listening choice. Also of note, don’t try to email the BOSS on the website-that must go to the management email abyss that never gets answered. Tried that too!

  75. Barb says:

I too assumed Rich and Elaine were on vacation and was appalled to discover what had been done to them and Andy. Listening to them each morning was an uplifting experience to start the day. I, amongst many others, I am sure will miss them. I’ll not listen to Q97.5 ever again. Hopefully, some other radio station will seize the opportunity to hire them, resulting in an immediate in crease in ratings.

  76. Gerri Dalrymple says:

I have listen to Rich and Elaine for a number of years and I cannot believe that they were let got I am truly saddened over the fact and I will not be listening to Q97.5 again. I loved John Tesh in the evening and now he is gone. I loved listening to Q97.5 at work all day but now no more. I am appalled at what can happen to people just because of change. Elaine and Rich are the best and Q97.5 bit there nose off to spite there face by getting rid of Elaine, Rich and Andy. Q97.5 is no longer my radio station

  77. SuAnne says:

I echo the comments that most others have made here. I am also over 50 and not in the demographic that Astral is now interested in. This is unfortunate as the Q97.5 format fit that niche for “older” listeners. There is now no other radio station in London for that market segment. Seems that with an aging population it would be a market to target!

I also enjoyed John Tesh in the evenings and catching some of Donny Osmond when I woke up in the morning before the news at 5:30, and then Rich and Elaine while getting ready for work. All of that gone with the change in format. I guess the the Christmas music during December will be gone as well.

I too will be changing radio stations or listening to Internet radio.

Best of luck to Rich and Elaine.

  78. Trish says:

    Way to go….
You’ve messed up my mornings which messes up my day which messes up all the people who work with me. If you wanted to get talked about – it worked but not, I’m sure in the way you had hoped.
I keep wondering if Rich and Elaine are on holidays and I REALLY miss Andy’s bits and bites after the news.
I’m actually feeling bereft, almost like someone has died. It’s terrible!
The news is way too bright – I have to turn her down to listen … the music is even too something – I’m not even sure what it is but I’ve given it a whole ‘work’ week and it’s just not growing on me.
I’ve listened to 97.5 every day on my way to and from work and started my day off with Rich & Elaine for so long I can’t remember when they started. I’m sorry but I can’t see what on earth the new format is meant to do but it’s onviously not aimed at me.
    Bye

  79. nancy says:

Rich, Elaine and Andy have been the spark in my mornings for many years and their departure is disappointing to say the least. Change! So many changes in these times of restlessness, but to remove our comfort is a shame.
Easy listening, pleasant cheerful voices….their devotion was recognized by the people of London, particularly at Chiildren’s Hospital. Their dedication to our annual radiothon was incredible, and we will miss them. My days of listening to 97.5 are over.

  80. I am saddened to hear that the morning show has changed and not for the better. I am disappointed that Rich and Elaine have been let go. I would like to know if they are picked up by another radio station. I am the owner of a business that has toyed with the idea of radio advertising but seeing that there are so many objections with this change I will have to find a different radio station. I wish Rich and Elaine well with there endeavor to find new employment.

  81. Dizzer says:

OK…thought it was just me… going back to school…Rich, Elaine and Andy were on holiday… after a couple of (depressing) days and hearing “the new 97.5″ AND since I nearly overslept without the familiar routines of voices etc…not sure WHY but I am one gone listener… the music I can hear on many stations and driving to school I can flip when the song is not me BUT I have been getting up and dressed and driven to work FOREVER with the class of the R.E & A…. see ya 97.5

  82. werner ginzel says:

I just needed to add my 2 cents worth ……..what in the world is Astral thinking? You don’t dismantle a dynamite team like Rich & Elaine .. ….. they delivered what people want to hear! I enjoyed their wit and charm.

With the big void now on 97.5, you can be assured I will not be listening!

  83. Ross Bowman says:

I am truly disgusted ` with The London Media.I have listened to Q 97.5 for the last time.I have been driving long haul truck for the last 6 years, but have been a passionate follower of Rich and Elaine, and nobody does `a radio broadcast as well as Andy, the only person that comes close to these 3 ptofessionals is George Noory on Coast to Coast. You 3 are and were the best, and I have no doubt you,ll all be successful in whatever road you take.My dad passed away at the first of August after 90 great years, this is almost as hard to take,I will truly miss the best in the business,as well no more Q 97.5 for me.

  84. Patrick J. Rumsey says:

FYI: I have filed a formal complaint with the CRTC, ‘a lengthy and involved process’ If I am not “satisfied” with the answers received from the broadcaster I can ask for a “FULL AND COMPLETE REVIEW” of their Broadcast Lisc. They need to be reminded “we OWN the airwaves”. I also truly believe this goes against Astral Media’s “Social Responsability Agreement” that was attatched to their ‘Promise of Performance’ when they purchased this Radio Station.

  85. Maureen Quigg says:

I too was on vacation when all of this happened. As usual, when I returned home and on my way to work I switched to my favourite morning radio show and just thought Rich, Elaine and Andy were all on vacation. What a shock to learn they were gone … for good! These three folks were the last of a class act on morning radio, and I’m completely disappointed and disgusted with this move. I for one have switched to another channel and will not support another brainless “corporate downsizing”. I wish Rich and Elaine all the best, and I know their talents will be used in other places/ways. P.S. – For those that don’t know, you can check out Andy on 1290 AM TALK Radio with his own program. Perhaps he’ll team up with his buddies Rich and Elaine for some special guest spots!?

  86. Anne says:

I am very disappointed with the new format of EZ 97.5. I really liked to wait up to Rich and Elaine in the morning..Andy`s comment on his bits & pieces were always entertaining…. The new format does not work for me in the morning and I am switching to something else..

  87. Teresa says:

I was a fan of this station for many years and always listened to Rich and Elaine during my daily commute to London. I understand that ratings may have been down and changes needed to happen(what station has not made changes?). I just am curious as to why these changes meant getting rid of the only thing on that station that was REALLY worth listening to? Sometimes people take chances and quickly put all their ‘eggs in one basket’. Unfortunately in this case, it really seems to have backfired. I have since switched stations and do hope that Rich, Elaine and Andy find their way back on air to a station who truly understands and cares about good talent. It’s your loss and someone elses gain Q97.5!!!!

  88. Kim says:

Shame on you!!! Rich, Elaine and Andy is what London will always need. I no longer listen to your NEW “crappy” station. Thinking of Rich, Elaine and Andy. Hang in there. Some other station will need you each morning like I and so many other people have for so many years. You are missed.

  89. ray says:

Wow. Seems to be a general theme here…hope Astral sees this. And the Facebook page too . Change happens but think Astral could’ve handled it better. They’ve lost this listener. Andy’s still over on AM. Good luck to Rich and Elaine!

  90. We will no longer invest in Astral Media, inc .. unEthical behavior like this firing without warning constitutes a withdrawl of investor confidence in Astral. No more stock purchases of Astral Media herewithin.

The people have spoken. Now it’s the investors who will speak even louder.

  91. Fran says:

    What the…Why? Where? How?
I’ve been blindsided. My morning routine is just not the same without Andy’s voice delivering the news. Rich and Elaine, miss you too. As for the format…EZ Rock does not mean listening to Marianas Trench or Greenday as I have witnessed. Sorry and Bye-bye. I am now searching for a new favorite morning station.

  92. Laura says:

I have to wonder why your article does not mention Elaine Sawyer. Wasn’t she fired too? At any rate, I will no longer be listening to ezrock in the mornings. I’m very disappointed in the new format and I miss the banter of Rich, Elaine and Andy. I especially miss Andy’s thoughts at 7:30. Very disappointing move EZrock and doesn’t look good on you at all. I guess I’ll be playing my cd’s all the time now.

  93. Yvonne says:

As already stated above I also thought Rich,Elaine & Andy were on Holidays. Sad to hear they will not be back.
I will not listen to the New EZ Rock so they lost another 15 year listener. Hope they show up on new station.

  94. Anne says:

I get the whole change thing….I am a 31 year old working professional who has lived through the rise of the internet and the fall of the discman. That being said, what is the “new 975″? To me, the message is entirely unclear…..the type of music that is played is a mish-mash and what’s funny is most of it is all ’90′s rock!
The woman who does the news in the morning is awful- how can you get the news you need in less than a minute?
One understands that the style of the morning talk show has changed and evolved, so if people don’t like it then they have many other stations to choose from; Regis and Kelly are getting outdated, it doesn’t mean they kick them off the air?
I quite enjoyed the Rich/Elaine/Andy team and they will be missed. I too have now found another station to listen to.
Best of luck with your “new 975″- by the sounds of it in reading this blog, you will need it.

  95. Pat says:

I’m really disappointed in the new 97.5 I really enjoyed Rich and Elaine in the morning. They were like family you could relate to a lot of things they said.
I wish them the best of luck and will be switching to another station from now on!!

  96. Denise says:

I too am looking for a new radio station. I enjoyed listening to Rich and Elaine for years. And Mark, you were great in the afternoons. The morning show lacks information and laughter. The poor new guy in the afternoons hasn’t even had a chance by me. It’s a shame what’s happened to the BEST radio station in London.

  97. Dianne says:

You know… it’s been more than a week since Rich & Elaine have been gone from the air and I thought I
would just stop listening to 97.5 and carry on. Having listened to Rich Greven since the start, I realize it’s
not that easy. I truly MISS them. I used to wonder who I would listen to in the mornings when Rich retired…
    this is much worse!

  98. Suzan says:

You can bet I will no longer be purchasing ANY products or services from companies that continue to advertise with Q97.5. I remember them all from the numerous commercials so it will be easy to know who NOT to call. I’m sure when they paid for their ads to run, it was when the great team of Rich, Elaine, and Andy were on the air. They should demand a refund or better yet – the quick reinstatement of Rich, Elaine and Andy – with a big fat raise for having been treated so shabbily.

  99. Robert Adeland says:

As a long time listener and as the winner of trip #2 where they did the morning show in our house back in 1986 (Rich and Norm – I have the pictures) and having stuck with Rich and Elaine all these years, you won’t find two people more interested and dedicated to the well being of Londoners and our community. They gave their time and attention to many causes and promoted the events. Their plug put lots of bums in chairs at the many events I have coordinated over the years. Rich and Elaine and Andy. Thanks for the good times, the news and the chuckles. Getting up is never much fun but you made it bearable. Take care and know that your listeners really miss you. It wont be the same without you. You guys were #1 on our dial. I guess I will wander off the setting and find someone new until you resurface.

  100. CAROL G says:

I FEEL LIKE SO MANY OTHER LISTENERS AT THIS POINT. AM MISSING RICH, ELAINE AND ANDY SO MUCH. THE MORNINGS JUST AREN’T THE SAME. I WOULD LEAVE MY HOUSE FOR WORK WHEN THEY WOULD SIGN OFF AND SAY BYE BYE AT 10 MINUTES TO NINE ON THE DOT, NOW, I’M NEVER ON TIME. WE LAUGHED AND CRIED WITH RICH AND ELAINE AND COULD FEEL THEIR HONESTY AND EMOTION IN THEIR VOICES WHEN TALKING ABOUT SO MANY TOPICS EVEN THEIR OWN FAMILIES. WHERE COULD ONE FIND A SKUNK REMEDY OR A RECEPIE FOR “SMORES” AND I’VE ALWAYS WONDERED WHEN SOMEONE HONKS THEIR HORN, HOW DO THEY KNOW WHAT KIND OF VEHICLE IT WAS. WILL REMAIN A SECRET I SUPPOSE. WHEN THEY’D DO THE TELETHONS FOR THE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL IT TOOK GREAT BRAVERY TO BE ABLE TO AIR THE PARENTS STRUGGLES AND THE COMMENTS FROM THE CHILDREN AS WELL. MANY TIMES THROUGH THE YEARS WE’D ALL BE IN TEARS WITH THE TRIUMPHS AND TRAGEDIES THE FAMILIES WENT THROUGH. WHO’S GOING TO CARRY THE TORCH NOW?? LISTENING TO ALL THE QUALIFIERS AND WINNERS OF THE MANY LISTENERS WHO WON THE TRIPS AND GOT TO GO AWAY WITH RICH AND ELAINE AND YOU’D BE SO HAPPY FOR THEM, LIKE ONE OF YOUR FAMILY HAD WON. THEIR THREE WAY BANTER WITH ANDY WILL ALSO BE MISSED, ALL THAT WISDOM EVERY MORNING GONE…..THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MARK, AS A FILL IN, BUT I’M SURE THAT I SPEAK FOR SOOOO MANY LISTENERS WE WANT AND NEED RICH, ELAINE AND ANDY BACK HOME. I HOPE THAT THEY THEMSELVES SEE THIS. I’VE THOUGHT OVER THE MANY YEARS THAT I SHOULD WRITE THEM A LETTER OR CALL THE STATION TO THANK THEM FOR MAKING ME LAUGH EVERYDAY, AND TELL THEM WHAT A GREAT JOB THEY’RE DOING. TO THE POWERS THAT BE, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?

  101. james.reaney says:

Thank you for joining the love-in/fray, Carol. I believe your comment is No. 100 on the post. Even allowing for a few repeats & some efforts by me to respond to many of the earlier ones, that is an incredible number for JBNB.
Astral, are you reading this? You should.
Meanwhile, to all those who have been part of Rich Greven: An angry fan speaks, I know your comments will have meant a lot to Rich Greven, Elaine Sawyer & Andy Oudman.
Shauna Rae hasn’t been mentioned on JBNB as often, but the same good will applies to her as well.

  102. Art says:

I have enjoyed the morning show with rich, Elaine and Andy for several years now. I was shocked to find out that they were let go. I sincerely hope that the new people on the air do well. As for me …. Well I have no reason to listen to q97.5 anymore. I’ll miss Rich, Elaine and Andy.

  103. Dawn says:

Rich, Elaine and Andy were the main reason I listened to 97.5 . My mornings are not the same on my drive to work. I do not like the new 97.5 Rich, Elaine & Andy, if you are on another station I hope you can let us know….I would switch to you in a minute!!

  104. Shannon Nunez says:

I arrived back from a weeks vacation to find out my favorite radio personalities were gone. I was shocked-they were the reason I listened to the station! Elaine sure knew how to handle Rich and thier constant bickering on air was hilarious!! Andy was great also. I have no doubt they will all find new work soon and when they do I’ll switch to that station because they are one of a kind.
Good luck and good luck to Q97.5 – you’ll need it to survive the loss of Rich and Elaine.

  105. Sandra says:

I was SO DISAPPOINTED when I heard that Rich and Elaine and Andy were no longer at EZ Rock 97.5….they brightened my drive in to work as well and thought that they might have been on vacation. Sorry Mark LaP. but you’re just not Rich and Elaine. I miss the humour, good music, their morning chats about everything and would love to know where they have gone to. Like Dawn said, if they’re at another station (I hope), I’d love to know. We Miss you so much!
PS: I listen to BX93 and Fresh FM now!

  106. Monica Parkin says:

I was also away on vacation and was surprised to hear new voices on Tuesday morning. I thought maybe my three FAVOURITE radio personalities were simply on a holiday themselves. The following week, when they weren`t “back“ I realized that the new “format“ was more than just a music switch up. I made a valiant effort in listening one more week, hoping that I would warm up to the new hosts, but alas, it just wasn`t meant to be for me. The spark and personality just isn`t the same. I wish the “newbies“ well, as they have large shoes to fill. But after 20+ plus years of listening to EZ Rock, it`s time for this lass to move on as well. Rich, Elaine and Andy – best of luck to you all. You are truly beautiful people. God Bless.

  107. Roy Wakerley says:

I was stunned to discover my favourite radio station had changed for the worst. My wife and I used to listen to Rich and Elaine over our morning coffee. We loved their antics and the way they bounced off each other. Rich and Elaine, we miss you very much. We have dumped 97.5 and we don’t listen to it any more. We’re hoping many other people will do the same.

  108. Chris Lipscombe says:

Rich, Elaine and Andy were the reason that I listened to Q97.5. I would continue to listen even with the new music format, but without Rich, Elaine and Andy, I find Q97.5 just plain boring. I will find another station to listen to, and if I don’t find one I like, I will make the move to internet radio or satellite radio. I really miss the morning show when I get up, on my way to work and while at work. I wish Rich, Elaine and Andy all the best (and I hope that they find a new local radio station to call home). As for Q97.5, I could not care less what happens to them now. They have already been removed from my radio presets.

  109. Patricia Dietz says:

I miss Rich, Elaine and Andy. They always made me laugh and, laughter is good for your health and a great way to start the day off. The news is lackluster now and I find I am not on top of current events because I haven’t been able to find a decent substitute for Andy. I personally feel 97.5 has made a big mistake and they will surely feel the error of their ways in a reduced listener base.

  110. Melinda Ruttan says:

Like others, I returned from a week’s vacation and found that my morning’s had been forever altered: Rich, Elaine and Andy: gone from 97.5 without a trace. For twenty plus years I took them all with me on my morning walk and they woke my husband and I cheerfully at 6 AM nearly every day. I had the pleasure of meeting them several times at the annual Children’s Hospital fundraiser and will always treasure that memory.
The world of Free Enterprise is, by and large, a blessing to our society but occasionally it really puts it’s foot in it. I wonder if 97.5 really knows the host of other stations that broadcast the same brand of mind numbing garbage they now proudly promote? The people who thrive on that tripe have few loyalties. Rich, Elaine and Andy’s fans were, on the other hand, legion.

  111. C. Sommers says:

I just finished sending the following email to 97.5
    Hello,

Thought you should know that I have stopped listening to your station. The music is just too ‘head banging’ for first thing in the morning; actually all day. Also, I miss the morning banter with Rich and Elaine. I was at the dentist this morning and they have also stopped listening to your channel as well. We had quite the conversation about this. Hmmm, wonder how many other listeners you have lost and are you measuring this???

What the heck has happened? Why would you make this change and what data did you use to decide to make this change / confirm the change? I don’t recall being given an opportunity to partake in this decision. As a devoted, deciated listener for many, many years – as well as a professional certified Six Sigma Black Belt in Marketing, I feel I deserve to be privy to this information. I’m very interested in learning how this decision was reached.

Thank you. I look forward to your reply. I will assume that if you don’t reply, you really don’t care about your listening audience and have made a devastatingly wrong decision.

  112. Pat Tyne says:

I moved to London from Hamilton 3 years ago and was thrilled to find 97.5, the sister station to the one I listened to in Hamilton for too many years to count, with the same type of music and humorous but informative morning show (with 1 lady and 2 men who worked so well together). Now that Rich, Elaine and Andy are gone my hubby and I have stopped listening to 97.5. We are in our 50′s and do not like the new format with the addition of the new rock music – it’s just not our style and we are desparately trying to find another station to suit us (hopefully with Rich, Elaine and Andy on it !!). We wish the new style 97.5 well but it won’t be with us in their listeners corner.

  113. Lisa says:

I too was bewildered for sometime thinking Rich, Elaine and Andy were on a vacation. After realizing that the “New Format” was indeed the loss of these 3 people I have turned my radio station several times, trying desparately to find a station that has substance like what I had before with Q.

I was so excited when my husband handed me an embroidered sweater/jacket with Q97.5 on the back of it that he received from Elaine’s father one year while working the Children’s Miracle Network. I wore that sweater/jacket proudly. I had so many people ask me how I got that I felt totally special that I had one and these other listener’s were envious of wanting it. I now have stopped wearing it and WON”T wear it any longer. I feel I was showing my support to the radio station but now that I don’t listen I can’t wear support for someone I don’t enjoy.

I understand change has to happen but when you have a “winning format” look to change elsewhere.

  114. Dawn Desrosiers says:

I have been reading some of the comments regarding the SUDDEN departure of Rich, Elaine and Andy. Like some
others I too had thought they were on vacation, and was shocked to learn they were GONE!!!!! What’s up with that.
No offense to Mark LaPointe really because he does a great job as well. I have been listening to Q97.5 for 20 years plus. The morning show with Rich and Elaine and Andy was the way I started my day. In August of 2004 my son son was in a near fatal car accident, and the following spring the Children’s Health Foundation approached us about
participating in the Annual Children Telethon and tell our story. I was so nervous and you can’t imagine how at ease my son and I were to be interviewed by them. The way they everyone feel like they were the only ones in the room. At that time my son was in a wheelchair and could not speak very well. About a year later when the new Arena in St. Thomas was having their Grand Opening and it was announced that Rich and Elaine were to be
the Emcee’s for the evening we made sure we attended. At one point during the evening we made our way to dressing room where they were rumoured to be. They came out to see us and could not believe that my son was the same person the had met a year before. I was a faithful listener before that and after i was a devoted listener.

Their humour, their bantering, their CARE for the community, their PARTICIPATION in community events all made Q97.5 the best radio station to listen to. Sorry NOT anymore. I can’t imagine what surveys, what sort of marketing measure were taken, what polls, what anything was taken and that the results would indicate that their removal would be seen as a positive move for The NEW sound of Q97.5

Well good luck with your choices as it sounds like you may need, as our home along with alot of others it seems
    will no longer be listening.

  115. Wade Fraser says:

I was shocked as well to hear Rich and Elaine were let go. I have listened to them for so many years I can’t remember how long it has been. I do NOT like the new format…and waking up in the morning to the radio has lost it’s pleasantry. I will definitely be switching the channel.

Good luck to Rich, Elaine and Andy. THEY made the radio station a pleasure to listen to. They will be missed.

  116. Nancy Lee says:

I miss Rich, Elaine, and Andy in the morning. Q97.5 is nothing without them. I want to thank them so much for everything that they have done for our community. London is a better city because of them. These three amazing celebrities have generously given their time and used their fame to draw attention to many wonderful fundraising events over the years. I have laughed and cried with them, even though I have never met them. In conclusion, Q97.5 is now just another random radio station, Rich, Elaine, and Andy……PRICELESS. God bless.

  117. Larry Carter says:

I am very disappointed with Q97.5 in letting Rich, Elaine and Andy go. I listened to them every morning on my way to work in Woodstock. The present format is not to my liking and I am now a FORMER listener. Hopefully we soon hear the three of them back on another station. Bye Q97.5!!!! I hope the advertisers are listening.

  118. Judy Durham says:

I too was very disappointed not hear my favoite morning show. My drive to work is not the same. This was the only good show( 97.5) had to offer. Andy is an exceptionable news caster. He had a way of telling the news like no one else. I miss you all !

  119. Judy Ellis says:

We just returned from a few weeks at the cottage and we were SHOCKED to find out that Rich, Elaine and Andy were no longer on our favourite radio program. We always woke up to their voices, their humour and their insightful comments about life in general. They had the best radio program on the network. We could have listened to them all day long if that had been possbile. We also enjoyed Rich and Elaine on Saturday evenings. This is a sad day for Q97.5, in fact they just lost two more listeners. Unfortunately for the public, most of the radio stations in London are very disappointing. Good luck to Rich, Elaine and Andy…..they will do well at whatever they choose to do.

  120. andrea/bruce says:

Hi, My husband and I just missed Andy when he was on vacation, let alone not on the station at all anymore. We actually talked yesterday about listening to Andy and this morning at 6:30 I put the news on to listen to him and there was a female doing the news. I didn’t realize at the time that all three were gone. I too had the radio station as a fixture in the bedroom and it will be changed. Yesterday I had it on the old radio that we take outside and I was staining the deck. Since the deck was wet I couldn’t get to the radio to change the station but I do NOT like the rock part at all. Our radios will all be changed to 96.7 Chym FM. Andy, Rich and Elaine, take care, we will miss you.

  121. Pam Gladysz says:

After returning from vacation and getting back into our normal routine of work and school I had my alarm set for 05:30 am…I was shocked and disappointed when my morning news was not on. I had assumed that the morning trio of Rich, Elaine and Andy were on vacation and would be back on when they returned. After two weeks of the “You’ve changed and so have we” radio, lacking of a morning show or proper news report, I clued in that this may be something permanent. I can not understand the station not making their listeners aware and not giving a proper send-off to the Rich, Elaine and Andy morning show. I have turned my dial for morning, noon and night at work, car and home. I will not return!

  122. Dianne says:

I can’t believe that Rich, Elaine and Andy are gone. I don’t even bother to turn on Q97.5 anymore. I feel like they have taken away a part of the London experience. Here we had people with a sense of London history, people who cared, who attended local charity events who spoke about them; they made us feel a sense on community. Rich and Elaine’s relationship always had a touch irreverance and warmth, a very strange combination indeed, hey that’s why we kept listening…..Andy’s news reports were informative and his comments gave you something to think about. Here was a guy with an actual opinion. I looked forward each day to listening to the radio. My husband and I will really miss them! If they are reading this please let us know what you are doing, where are you going in your careers? You cared about London for many years and we just want you to know that we care about you!

  123. Gord Cumming says:

I remember listening Andy give the news updates 25 years ago when my parents would listen to it on the radio. I have since listened to him each day on the drive in – it has truly been a part of my life. I cannot for a moment ponder what the hell management there was thinking to get rid of those three. Stupidity if you ask me, and I bet someone else in London will scoop them up in a heartbeat. they will most likely regret this move.

  124. judy ramsey says:

please note I am truly upset wiith the bosses at 97.5 . We have been listeniing to rich and elaine and andy for over 20 years and cannot believe the disrespect you obviously have for the listeners opinions. We all get older and wiser over the years and I guess we are now smart enough to turn your station off and hope to find RICH, ELAINE AND ANDY on a new and better radio station . Sorry about your inability to understand the feelings of the older crowd they have served so well over the years. Sad to see them all go and wish them the best of luck in any new endeavors they decide to follow.

  125. Trevor N says:

I for one am very happy that Shauna Rae is off the air on am1290 CJBK, I would listen to Andy till 10am then I would have to switch to am980 or am640 because Shauna’s show was so unbearable her topics were the worst and as a man between the age of 18-49 was the last thing I wanted to hear.

  126. james.reaney says:

Thanks, Trevor. You obviously weren’t in Shauna’s demographic. As a male even older than you, by a decade or two or three, I thought she rawked on CJBK. Shauna, your fans miss you . . . & even if your non-fans, like Trevor, have noticed you absence. Wherever you are, keep a-rawkin.

  127. Mary Thompson says:

I too was shocked when I heard Rich, Elaine and Andy were no longer on 97.5. I always turned my radion on at 5:30 to hear Andy’s news first, then Rich and Elaine’s banter until 9, then swithced over to 101.3. I first assumed that they were on holidays. I no longer listen to 97.5 but make 101.3 my priority station.

  128. Trevor N says:

AND that is why James she is no longer on the radio she doesn’t bring in the demographic and when a station is fighting for listeners they have to bring in advertising or loose them to their ipod (tunes or pod casts) or internet radio. so she can “rock” the station into losing money or they can retool and try to get more revenue with better topics and song formats in the case of Q97.5 Just accept the fact that the station needs to change to be profitable. as an older demographic you should accept the loss of format. just like I accept I wont get a pension when I’m 60 or 65 or maybe even 75. Enjoy the tunes and the public health care and pension plan in your autumn years.

  129. Lisa CJ says:

How many of us were shocked at the news of Q97.5 no longer having the best in the buisness on their side….Rich, Elaine & Andy….wow….you got to wonder….what were they thinking!? Astral we know you are trying to do what’s best for the business….but what about the people…..we know what’s best to…..and let me tell you Rich, Elaine & Andy are household names and they are right up their with some of the best.

When I moved to Candad many moons ago and I was trying to find a music station that would hit home with me. Then one day I came across Q97.5 and I heard the voices of Rich, Elaine and Andy and that was it….when I started to listen to them in the morning they made the difference for me….finally I felt at home. They were so easy to listen to….I felt as though I was listening to family. The bantering back forth, the true life stories, the laughter, the tears, the warmness that came from them….you name it they had it….they have personality that is unmatched in this business.

Yes change is a must and I want to wish all the best to the crew who has taken over the “new sound of 97.5″. There are good people like Mark & Cat who are veterans in the business themselves and are good at what they do but Rich, Elaine & Andy was part of what made Q97.5 “rock” and that’s now lost.

Rich, Elaine & Andy are people….that’s for the people and that was shown in many ways…. their committment to our commmuinity and much more. Their comradery felt real, true and honest….and that’s what you want….the music was just bonus.

Rich, Elaine & Andy we got your back and we’re hoping you will be back on the air soon……your fathful & devoted fans are waiting to hear the “sound of music” and “you familiar voices” once again….where ever you end up we will follow! We miss you guys so don’t stay away too long!

  130. Doris Noble says:

I just googled Rich’s name to see if I could find out what happened to the morning show. I always woke up to them in the am and thoroughly enjoyed the “Happy” banter in the am. Andy had some great comments even though I didn’t always agree with them. I thought they were on vacation too but after 3 weeks thought something was amiss. I can’t stand the music that they play in the morning and I’ve switched to another station for my wake-up alarm.
Rich and Elaine you are the best!!! Q 97.5 you are the worst!!!

    Tuned out to another station!!!

  131. Diane Fisher says:

I don’t understand why the public wasn’t made aware beforehand that Rich, Elaine and Andy weren’t going to be on the air anymore. I am soooooooo disappointed! I have listened to them for 15 years now and like everyone else I miss Andy and his “if you own a Smart Car, don’t go on the 401″, when it’s windy, or “hold on to your chihuahua” or that a beautiful day was “SALUBRIOUS”. Rich and Elaine had their own wonderful connection and they were a joy to listen to. I truly miss them and wish all three good fortune in the future. I have already changed radio stations. I did enjoy Mark in the afternoons, but something has changed with the morning show. Yikes!

  132. Roberta M says:

Thank you for recognizing how tired the Andy, Elaine and Rich show was. Smart move! Now we don’t have to listen to Andy sensationalize the news like he’s reporting for the National Enquirer, or Rich and Elaine kibitzing like Ma and Pa Kettle, or Elaine making fun of her hair, her husband, blah, blah, blah…….. Now, just prove to London you can replace them with fresh wit and accurate reporting. Best of luck to those 3- maybe early retirement is a good consideration!

  133. Peggy Matser says:

I’ve read through a lot of the previous comments and agree with some (on both sides). Radio stations are free to change their format to reach the people they want to reach. But there are better ways to do it than ‘dumping’ personalities who are so well loved and who have given so much commitment to the station for many many years. Whether you liked them or not, folks, admit that you wouldn’t want that kind of treatment. they could have been moved to a different time slot, for instance. I don’t like the new format either, and am searching for a new ‘home’ station that I can listen to during the workday – any suggestions, anyone? Meanwhile, good luck to all 3 – you were winners!

  134. Karen Laker says:

Hi I too thought that Rich, Elaine and Andy were on vacation. I have tried to listen to the Morning Show and the news in the morning but, I too find it too loud and not very “Easy Listening Too music”. I find that the news is just reading the headlines with no information, no comments or addresses to anything. The music choses are not what you want to listen to in the morning. If we wanted competition with the noise of the children and pets in the morning, we would put on an old vinyl of Alice Cooper or any other loud and acidic music. The tranquil moments are now gone with the three of them. Please let our public know where they have gone, so we can too go with them. Thank you!

  135. Debra Males says:

The new format without Rich and Elaine is boring and definitely not “easy listening”. While I usually disagreed with Andy’s commentaries, he was also vital to the program. I have switched to another station which is not as good as the old format but certainly better than the new one.

The negative responses are the same reaction when Rich replace Jackie and “what’s his name”. But Rich’s personality eventually won the listeners over. It won’t happen this time, because the new program is too dull to give it a chance and there are more alternatives to listeners this time.

  136. Janice Mc Ewen says:

I was shocked to find out that they were let go. I sincerely hope that the new people on the air do well. As for me …. Well I have no reason to listen to q97.5 anymore. I’ll miss Rich, Elaine and Andy it is not too late to change it back…give the listeners what they want to listen to…

  137. jpyce bosma says:

what did they base that decision on??/ the were an integral part of the london and st.thomas community. their involvement in the community was second to none….i too was dissapointed when I realized they were not on holidays but gone…….where are they now? i would love to switch to the station they now work at….i do not like the new music on 97.5 .so i will not longer tune in to that staion….signed,,,,a very dissapointed listener…

  138. Irene says:

I am angry disappointed and upset that I can no longer listen to Rich and Elaine. They were my family, it was like being round the dinner table and squabbling together. Do the radio bosses even listen to their listeners – they expect us t listen to them. It is simple things that annoy me – I used to love when I picked up my daughter from after school club and we would try the movie competition we never won but it was fun. We now can no longer do this as it is on in the morning. How can they treat people so badly when al they have done is promote the radio station, kept the listener happy. We have enough pop shows, Ryan Seacrest is on enough programs without coming to easyrock – BRING BACK RICH, ELAINE AND THE CREW. I feel like I am suffering a bereavement.

  139. Paula Hill says:

I was on vacation and was putting on my radio and thought like everyone else that Rich and Elaine had gone on a trip with some lucky listeners. I can’t believe that they won’t be on the radio anymore I LOVED them even though I’ve never met them. BRING THEM BACK we should have a revolt and someone organize a meeting place where everyone can meet and make the station reverse their decision. Who was the idiot who decided this was a good idea? I am not listening to their Station anymore so they better advertize loundly when then bring them back so we know it!!
Rich, Elaine and Andy -your listeners are in mourning for you; we loved listening to you every day and really appreciated being able to listen to you early in the morning. You are the best radio has to offer. Please know we
    love and miss you.
    your fan

  140. Barb Cook says:

Like so many, I thought Rich and Elaine were on vacation. What on earth was Astral thinking to let them go!! Hundreds of listeners started their mornings with Rich and Elaine and because of that kept tuned to Q97.5 all day. These on air personalties have done so much for the London community over the years and have a very faithful following. I think I would even have accepted your new musical format if you had kept Rich and Elaine – NOT NOW. This is another listener you have lost.
Rich and Elaine – let us know when you join a new radio station. You’re the best and we miss you so much.
Astral Media – you folks are nuts. Hope you’re keeping track of how many listeners you are losing – or better still, hope your advertisers are aware of how upset your former listeners are.

  141. Lori McInerney says:

Since moving to London 10 years ago Rich, Elaine and Andy were an enjoyable end to my day as I drove home after working nights. Their humor helped keep me awake after my 12 shifts, My husband recently started tuning to a different station when driving my car and I would faithfully tune back. No more! Change is not always for the best. Our community has lost out in this decision. I just hope that another station scoops them up and they are soon back on the air. Q97.5 will be the biggest looser!

  142. Joyce says:

I have enjoyed the morning show with rich, Elaine and Andy for several years now. I was shocked to find out that they were let go. I sincerely hope that the new people on the air do well. As for me …. Well I have no reason to listen to q97.5 anymore. I’ll miss Rich, Elaine and Andy. I enjoyed them very much on the ride to work every morning. They made me laugh and most times made my day. Q97.5 sure has made a big mistake by letting them go.

  143. jim brickwood says:

Wow not a good day. Sorry to hear Rich, Elaine, Andy not hosting the morning show anymore. They were alway sensitive to their public. Not to professional how this station handled it with their removal and the public. If 97.5 wants to succeed they need to make sure they keep their listeners happy. The junk that comes on in the morning is awful. We use to listen to your station everyday but will now move elsewhere. Good luck Rich, Elaine, Andy

  144. james.reaney says:

Thanks to you, Jim, & all those who have been sharing the love. I gather there was “a night” for Rich Greven last week so he’s still around & his friends are rawkin with him.

  145. Patti Bird says:

Like all the other comments I thought Rich, Elaine, and Andy were on vacation. I kept listening to the station and then I heard Mark say the “New Sound of EZ rock”. I emailed the station asking about the 3 but never heard back. I have given the station a try…a long try…and now I have changed stations and there are a lot of people that I work with who have done the same…If anyone finds Rich, Elaine and Andy on another station please let everyone know…

  146. mark woo says:

I also thought Rich, Elaine, and Andy were on vacation. I’ve just checked 97.5 website looking for any announcements but could find any. A quick google search brought me here and my worse suspensions are now confirmed – Rich, Elaine, and Andy are gone. I’ll erase 97.5 from my preset radio stations list. It’s just a boring station now like many other.

  147. Marie Smith says:

I have listened to 97.5 for years. I use to look so forward to tuning in first thing in the morning to listed to Rich, Elaine and Andy’ hit and run but no more. The new format is bad enough…but now there is no Andy, Rich or Elaine. It is pathetic. There is nothing that sets 97.5 apart anymore. I can tune in to any other radio station and it would be the same thing. Shame on whoever made the decision to rid 97.5 of its old format and of its superstars. You have definitely lost me as a listener.

  148. Carol Demaiter says:

I have listened to 97.5 for years!!!! There is no reason to listen to that station any move since Rich,Elaine and Andy are gone. BIG MISTAKE 97.5 big mistake!!!!!!!! I don’t even like how the new station sounds anymore. No more funny stories or laughing on my way to work!!
If anyone hears of Rich Elaine or Andy on a station in London PLEASE announce it.
That station will be deleted from my regular programmed stations in my car!!
Shame on the people who made the POOR decision to get rid of the best radio talent in all of London.
Good luck to Rich,Elaine and Andy. We miss you!!

  149. Cathy says:

I too like others have listened to BX 97.5 for many, many years on the way to work and am angered by this decision by Astral Media. Loved Rich, Elaine and Andy. Poor, poor decision on the part of Astral Media. Lost a whole generation of listeners and supporters with this decision. I too would like to see the data that supports getting rid of 3 of the most popular radio hosts in the London area. Working for a major London company I have been thru changes of this type many times – but you don’t get rid of your most popular commodity. The data to support this decision must have been provided by someone under 35!! and not in tuned with the demographics. I WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT THIS STATION OR ATTEND ANYTHING IT SPONSORS…BX 93 will be my station of choice…Astral has definitely made a grave error and will loose their listening audience – or at least the ones that can afford to support their station.

  150. mary jane charlton says:

I have been wondering what happened to Rich & Elaine !! I am also a huge fan of there’s. I Loved driving to work listening to them, always made me smile. I too will not be supporting Q97.5 easy rock…

I truely am dissappointed with the channel. now.. music is often bad… and i have been looking for a better channel your music really in not easy to listen too anymore…

I wish Rich & Elaine all the best in which ever way the road takes them!! You have given me many laughs and some crying you were both great and special people! I appreciated what you did all those years!!

    Maryjane

  151. Vincent Enright says:

Another morning without Rich and Elaine and Andy. I feel like I’m in purgatory. I guess I won’t be dropping off my usual platter of baked goodies this Christmas. Christmas Eve morning I’ll play my tape recordings of Rich and Elaine’s Christmas Eve morning show. I always got up early so thatI wouldn’t miss a minute of it. I guess I’ll sleep in this Dec. 24 and play the tapes later in the day. Those controlling EZRock probably plan to start telling young children that there is no Santa Claus. Way to go Grinch!

    Vince Enright

  152. Melissa Ng says:

Having Rich, Elaine, and Andy fired was the worst decision Astral Media made. I really don’t like Mark LaPointe…(personally, I find him a bit awkward on air). It was always fun to listen to the Christmas songs play 24/7 during the month of December (at least until Dec. 26). But the new format for Q97.5 really is aimed towards the younger generation but even still…I still prefer the old format and I’m 16. I grew up listening to Q97.5 without all the excessively autotuned songs by Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, etc…The old Q97.5 was old-fashioned but very unique and amusing…now I either listen to my own music player in the car or listen to another random radio station.

  153. Wendy Lewis says:

I really miss hearing Rich, Elaine and Andy in the morning. They always helped me to wake up and get ready for the day! they were so funny and motivating and just so real and personable! I have been switching radio stations looking for them, I did not know what happened to them until I read this. I think this is just the worst decision Astral Media has made, I cannot even listen to 97.5 anymore it is just not the same… Still searching for them and hoping that they get back on Air cause that will be the station I will choose to listen to permanantly. Till then I am just going to have to flip back and forth station to station.

  154. Marg Veenhof says:

I am very dismayed that Q97.5 has fired Rich, Elaine and Andy. They always gave me a great start to my mornings and continued to entertain and provide music of a less intrusive nature for the remainder of the day. Sorry, but Lady Gaga and her ilk are not ‘easy listening’!!! Even John Tesh appears to have disappeared! What a travesty!
The current news format is horrific! One news story melts quickly into another. It is often difficult to tell where one news story ends and another begins….the announcer has not yet learned that voice inflection and a pause in speaking will indictae a new subject.
I no longer find this station to be easy listening, so I have found a fairly good substitute from a station in Tillsonburg. Or, I use my CD`s.
According to many past listeners, I am obviously not the only one who feels this way.
You have made a huge mistake, ASTRAL.

  155. Diana & Frank Lewis says:

Astral media has done it again! We used to listen to Dave and Jackie in the morning, before we left for work and on our 1 hour drive to work. We also istened on our drive home. Then they let Jackie go. It was just not the same without her, so we quit listening to BX
We found 97.5 and liked listening to Rich, Elaine and Andy in the morinings. We listened at night on our way home as well just because we liked the mustc Now they have let Rich, Elaine and Andy go and changed the format! We too have been looking for another station to listen to. We detest the new format.

  156. james Aurthur says:

My wife and I enjoyed Rich and Elaine for many years. At one point I tried switching to a Detroit station and she became upset. She convinced me that we needed to be in touch with the community and Rich and Elaine did that.
Their sincere interest in the people of London and their joy of life which they shared over and over were refreshing and appreciated. I learned my lesson and never suggested we change again . I think Astral Media will also learn a lesson. There are lots of stations catering to a younger audience. The older more mature listeners had chosen 97.5 for a reason. I loved Mark in the afternooon and to be fair he does a great job in the am slot too- he is not Rich or Elaine.
I am full time Sirrius now never to return.

  157. Linda Andress says:

I no longer listen to Q97.5 since Rich and Elaine are gone, and I don’t like the new format either.

  158. Carol LaRocque says:

I tried to give the new format a chance but I find it boring, ZZZZZZZZZZZ. I miss Rich, Elaine and Andy so much.
I still cannot find a station to compare it to. Rich, Elaine and Andy were the best talk show host’s in the morning. I miss
bits and bites with Andy. I miss the way Rich and Elaine joked about stuff going on in their lives.
    Please bring them back
    Carol

  159. james.reaney says:

Thanks, Carol. As you can see, you are definitely not alone. The comments here all (or almost all) show how Londoners love their favourite radio personalities & want to see them treated fairly.

  160. Michele Crowe says:

I agree with all the comments posted. I am totally disgusted they would do this to these three. They were the absolute best on morning radio. I would wake up to them every morning to their jokes and stories. I too, have found a different radio station. It does not compare to the old Q97.5 morning radio, but it is better then what is out there now. I have been boycotting the station since the day I found out. I did listened to the new format and it is terrible. I hope Q97.5 realizes they have done themselves in!

  161. Liz says:

I agree with the comments above. I have tried to give the “new format” a chance but to be honest waking up to Q97.5 is very annoying now! It does not start my day off well! I too am searching for another radio station to listen to. The music is definitely not easy listening, and most certainly doesn’t “ease” you into the day. I was not aware that Rich, Elaine and Andy had been fired, I assumed they had been moved to another show.
They were great, and so was John Tesh! Astral has made a big mistake.

  162. james.reaney says:

Thanks for the comment, Liz. Just for clarification re: status of the three people you & so many others carry about. I don’t know of Rich Greven’s status, but would be happy to share it.
Andy Oudman is on air with AM 1290 a corporate sibling of the FM station . . . Elaine Sawyer, I believe, is working in an off-air capacity.
Anyone who knows the details pls. share them — & I will JBNBlog will be happy to share them also.

  163. Erin B says:

I just googled Rich and Elaine’s names, and found this on the internet. I have missed them a lot lately and didn’t know what happened to them, let alone that they were fired – this is just outrageous. I refuse also to listen to the new formatted 97.5 radio station, and am wandering around trying to find a decent one that doesn’t play the same “new” pop over and over…good luck to Rich, Elaine and Andy, they are truly missed. I also loved it when Andy gave the news, he had the perfect personality for telling stories and news.

  164. Connie says:

What has happened to the good old Q97.5??????? It has turned to a radio station that plays the type of songs I have tried to avoid…. Very dissapointed, I miss the gang and the good memories of the station. You not only have removed Rich, Elaine, and Andy, but now you have taken away all my good memories from the station. I will not be listening anymore, and that is really too bad…

  165. Heather says:

I really like the new Q97.5. I do feel bad that people were fired but I do not know why people think the new music is too much. I like it because it is not too fast and not too slow. I think the new guy is doing a great job and I guess that Astral Media had too do what they had to do to get more people listening. Some of the other stuff was too blah. I do admit i really did like the Christmas music 24/7 at christmas time, but we unfortunately live in a society where christmas is banned pretty much. Last year when they cut the christmas music in half they told me people were complaining about the kind of music. Complainers win so maybe you should all just keep complaining.

  166. Jeff says:

I only listen to Q97.5 for the news now because it is local. As for the changes, they are horrible. Nothing flows anymore, it’s like a highschool class has been given a project to run a radio station. Rich, Andy and Elaine were great! I would get up early just to listen to them.
These changes made no sense to me. Astral doesn’t seem to care what the listeners want.

As for Rich, Andy and Elaine, they are all great people and I’m sure they are doing fine at their new ventures. If they knew how many people have dropped listening to the station since their departure I’m sure they would have the last laugh.

  167. james.reaney says:

Hi Jeff … thanks for your comments. By coincidence, Elaine Sawyer, now a marketing director for Astral Radio, sent along the following e-mail announcing a format change at the old CKSL 1410 (London’s country music station in my youth) … Oldies 1410 becomes 1410 on Jan. 1, 2012.

    New Year, new station…
Oldies 1410, an Astral Radio property, becomes FUNNY 1410
London, November 23, 2011 – Astral Radio, the country’s largest radio broadcaster, today announced the launch of FUNNY 1410 on New Year’s Day. Funny 1410 will be Canada’s first all comedy station featuring the biggest names in stand up from Canada and around the world. The format is already proving a winner in several US markets by targeting an adult 25-54 audience with a slight male skew. It is quickly becoming a must-buy station with its unique format delivering a real advantage for advertisers.
The format is represented exclusively in Canada by Astral’s syndication arm Orbyt Media. The new station branding stems from Astral Radio’s mission to innovate and evolve its brands.

  168. Marilyn Harris says:

Well, here I am on a sunny Sunday with lots to do, however, I feel it necessary to comment on the ‘comments’ about our greatly missed Rich, Elaine and Andy team of professionals. It’s been one year and 4 months since they were ‘sideswiped’ ‘packaged out’ ‘put out to pasture’ and kicked in their butt’s for becoming London’s Finest! They were an icon, a culture, a way of life for so many thousands of loyal listeners, in particular, the baby boomers, who are the largest population in North America at this time. We, as loyal listeners were unprepared to have our hearts broken, our spirits challenged, and insulted, after listening for decades and ‘buying products’ advertised on their program, their tireless charity drives for LHSC, and, listening with pure joy to the spirited points of view, always classy, accurate, thorough, credible, professional, well thought out, kind, compassion, and love of their respective and responsible jobs and, then ‘SILENCE’. You should be ashamed of your perceived coldness and here today gone tomorrow attitude! Don’t forget who made the radio station so popular and loved for so many years! There was no celebration of success and well deserved thank you’s. We have never listened to your station after their execution. Rich, Elaine and Andy if you’re reading this, we miss you, you are not forgotten. We had a dinner party last night with business friends, and there was a common denominator in our many hours of discussions about politics, travel, children, education, sports, news media, values and ethics – we all agreed that is was shabby and unprofessional the way you were treated and how the public still wonders why! Good luck in all you do and know you are all missed terribly and well loved by all who knew you. Be safe and healthy. M.Harris, London

Thanks for sharing & keeping the faith. As I’ve said, this one post attracted the most comments & most passion of them all (1,900-plus & counting) . . . can someone help with these details: here’s what I think: Andy is on the air (I believe), Elaine is working for the Astral empire off-air & I have no recent details on Rich. I do know the combination of Rich-Andy-Elaine was beloved by Londoners & no one seems to have replaced it in their affections.

I enjoyed waking up to Rich, Elaine and Andy in the morning as my alarm clock went off. I listened to the morning show for years. This radio station will never be the same. The Saturday night show from 6 to 10 was such a fun show to listen to. Andy’s distinct voice is missed by many i’m sure. Why change something if it isn’t broken. I realize this world is all about change and if the format had to be changed, I’m sure it would have been easy for Rich, Elaine and Andy to make that switch. I wish each of you all the best.

Rich,Elaine and andy were the prime motive for me to wake up to drive my cab in London’s streets, who in the earth would lose a team like this?

i was stunned to find out about rich, elaine and andy,..i understand i’m late jumping into the mix,.but i must have my say,and i hope this reaches the powers to be,that sit in their boardrooms making these kinds of deciisions,.to decide what is best for London,.
i really think if you had actually crunched the numbers,..
the money alone those three outstanding individuals raised, for the charties that relies on word of mouth to get the messages out there,..the hours, the care, the kindness, and the love that they provided for people in need,..the motivations alone that got people involved to help support our communtiy ,.for 3hours a day they supplied us with information that was so important to london listeners,..THEY CARED ABOUT EACH AND EVERY LISTENER,EACH AND EVERY PERSON THAT NEEDS THOSE CHARITIES TO HELP THEM SURVIVE,.THEY LOVED LONDON,.AND JUST READING THESE MESSAGES,.LONDON LOVES THEM,..
who do you have now that will help all these charities,.are you the board willing to get off your back sides and put hundreds of hours in to help,.
i , like all the others that have spoken,..i will no longer listen to 97.5,.i have made the switch to fresh fm 103.1

shame on you 97.5 for taking away from our community,.

I think its pretty clear that the switch to Virgin has been a huge success for the station and now is the number one music station for the 18-49 age demographic. 97.5 definitely made the right choice and moved forward with its programing for the changing tastes in London Rich and Elaine who???

  174. james.reaney says:

Thanks Trevor . . . it’s taken three years & a change of format (at least one), numerous departures & changes & the station’s sale (as part of the Astral/Bellmedia deal, is that right?) to proclaim this “huge success.”
All JBNBlog knows is that no post here has attracted so many angry & eloquent insights — wish I could find that mojo more often.
One other aspect — the comments here may have kept the calls to the station switchboard down a bit. In the days & weeks after Rich Greven and Elaine Sawyer were off the air, there were many many many angry calls fielded by the station’s switchboard operator(s). Or so it has been said.
Write any time & go London radio.

I hope this has freed him up to do his good works elsewhere….where else have you seen a man dedicate himself to his community for so many years with a mountain of effort put forward on increasing the donations to our good hospitals…as well as the countless charities he has helped fundraise for?…not even to mention the many promotions he had brought forward for his listeners to enjoy free trips many of these listeners may not have ever experienced before…Elaine was a welcome addition a few years later and added new interest and vitality to an already thriving show…I wish both of these talents great success in their future endeavours and have not listened to the station since I heard this happened…I would’ve posted a comment here earlier had I come across this site before now….thanks for giving us an outlet to vent our frustration in the unfair practice we have witnessed here
