JBNBlog wishes to say a joyful thank you to the great souls of the Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre at the Stratford Festival.
The actors in the class of 2012-2013 staged a magnificent reading of my father’s first big play The Killdeer on Sunday. It was the last in a series performed — for free — in the lobby at the Festival Theatre.
All Conservatory members are offered contracts for the subsequent Festival season, it is said — & the fest will have 10 aces right there.
The Killdeer was directed by Ruby Joy, who also was Madam Fay, & Antoine Yared. Everyone was terrific & I understood the play in a new way . . . wow! There is more about our Sunday night with the young stars at jamesreaney.com …. thanks to Martha Henry, who directs the Conservatory, & Ann Stuart, who is its co-ordinator for their gracious invitation & welcome.
My only regret is that the earlier Birmingham presentations of such works as Picnic came & went without my getting up to the lobby.
Martha was in dad’s Names & Nicknames (1963), Colours in the Dark (1967) and Three Desks (JBNBlog better check on the date).
Thanks to all again, we are thrilled . . . & here is some background via an ace blog – http://reviewsbyrobyn.blogspot.ca
