Cyclists, it’s not about you

- October 11th, 2011

Despite the headline, and general thrust of the column, some out there still feel like we’re being harsh on the cycling community over what is a botched, and seemingly unnecessary project.

Maybe I was a little harsh in my word choices in my column. Obviously I don’t see it that way. I can stand by what I wrote.

Bike commuting is a good thing. But bad planning and projects aren’t. Full stop.

In no way are cyclists looking to interfere with the flow of traffic. We usually do whatever we can to avoid main thoroughfares so that our rides are quieter and less polluted. If the city wants to help cyclists, feel free to give us bike routes that are off the beaten path. Please do no assign us routes that will hinder the freeflow of traffic in this car-gridlocked city.
