Sault Ste. Marie man gives Canadians a bad name

r-BEAT-UP-ANITA-SARKEESIAN-GAME-large570

Ben Spurr has honoured his community and this great nation of ours by designing a video game in which participants get to beat the living crap out of a young woman. Specifically, U.S. blogger Anita Sarkeesian, who had the nerve to plan to eventually discuss tropes of women in videogames.

It’s a heartwarming tale of a hometown boy done good. Writes the Sault Star:

The backlash includes the game, which was posted to www.newgrounds.com by a user calling himself Bendilin, 25, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

The game’s creator accuses Sarkeesian of “scamming,” money out of donors, and claims she, “Uses the excuse that she is a woman to get away with whatever she damn well please (sic).”

Ah yes! It’s a classic twist on the Nigerian Royalty scam, but instead of duping people out of money on false pretenses, Sarkeesian accepts voluntary donations through a reputable fundraising site and explains exactly what she’s going to do with the money. Genius!

In the game, cleverly named “Beat Up Anita Sarkeesian,” users click on a picture of the research student and watch as she develops bruises and cuts. But in case you were worried there might be some misogyny at play here, relax! The game’s creator has rationally explained that his artistic endeavour “isn’t about ‘punching women.’  It’s about punching a selfish person. There’s a difference.”

What a beautiful expression of gender equality. I hereby declare sexism defeated.

If he made a game where you punch a dude, no one would care. So maybe somebody can kindly explain this double standard to me.

If a dude wanted to make a video about men’s representation in games and someone made a video game where you get to beat him up, I would care. I absolutely would.

That said, you can’t divorce this issue from the high prevalence of male-on-female violence in the world.

While i find this a disgusting form of of displying violence, I do take exception to Sheena Goodyear’s B.S.

“That said, you can’t divorce this issue from the high prevalence of male-on-female violence in the world”.

Google Dr. Martin S. Feibert and read the hundreds & hundreds of empirical studies on violence against men.

    Last updated: June 2012

SUMMARY: This bibliography examines 286 scholarly investigations: 221 empirical studies and 65 reviews and/or analyses, which demonstrate that women are as physically aggressive, or more aggressive, than men in their relationships with their spouses or male partners. The aggregate sample size in the reviewed studies exceeds 371,600.

People are getting sick and tired of the lies surrounding DV.

    Start telling the truth Sheena!

Ah, altruism, the universal whitewash for evil. You want to get away with something, no matter how extreme, just find a way to smear your target as “selfish” and you can get away with anything you want.

Women are just as guilty of violence against men and children. It just goes unreported with men and is downplayed with children. Perhaps one day the sexism associated with domestic violence will eradicated and we can began the process of trying to understand what human being abuse each other no matter what gender they are.

For Billy, some stats on violence against women. Please know, however, that I know and understand that men are also victims of domestic violence, and this issue is under-reported.

    Stats Can, family violence, 2009:

“in 2009, females who reported spousal violence were about three times more likely than males (34% versus 10%) to report that they had been sexually assaulted, beaten, choked or threatened with a gun or a knife by their partner or ex-partner in the previous 5 years.”

“Over the past 30 years, the rate of spousal homicides against females has consistently been about three to four times higher than that for males”

    StatsCan, violent crime, 2008:

“Female victims of police-reported physical assaults were more often victimized by someone with whom they had a current or former intimate relationship; whereas male victims were most often physically assaulted by a stranger or by someone else outside of the family.”

“Females were over 10 times more likely than males to be victims of a police-reported sexual assault.”

    World Health Organization:

“A WHO multi-country study found that between 15–71% of women reported experiencing physical and/or sexual violence by an intimate partner at some point in their lives.”

    More detail:

    “• between 15% of women in Japan and 70% of women in Ethiopia and Peru reported physical and/or sexual violence by an intimate partner;
    • between 0.3–11.5% of women reported experiencing sexual violence by a non-partner;
    • the first sexual experience for many women was reported as forced – 24% in rural Peru, 28% in Tanzania, 30% in rural Bangladesh, and 40% in South Africa.”

Why can’t we just stick to Canada/U.S.?

We cannot hope to change anything in those other countries you quote.

But they are always trotted out to help show the fembot slant for so-called Global Statisitics.

The Martin S. Fiebert compiliation is appropo to U.S. and Canada.

It is Empirical Evidence, not from biased sources.

“The aggregate sample size in the reviewed studies exceeds 371,600.”

Why have we never seen this in any Canadian newspaper??

Why has there NEVER been an indepth study into WHY 8-10 Canadian Men take their lives EVERY DAY??

Why does our Fed. Gov’t alone fund over 500 Womens’ Groups but not a single solitary Men’s group like http://www.fact.on.ca ??

I recall a quote of the famous Judge Judy from years ago….to the effect….

“When the Mens’ groups get their act together, the Class Action Law Suits will bankrupt the Gov’t.

BTW…glad the CREEP who had that disgusting game up on the net is GONE…hope his kind never are allowed such again.

I think the real issue is that some Twit is making a game depicting beating on someone. Male or Female this should not be tolerated by any of us and instead of starting a battle of the sexes maybe we should all be working together to solve the problem.

Why can’t we just stick to Canada/U.S.?

(Why can’t we just forget about the GLOBAL issue of violence against women as that would put to shit all my nonsense about violence being just as pervasive against males. LOL)

But they are always trotted out to help show the fembot slant for so-called Global Statisitics.

(Didn’t your parents teach you any respect? A fembot? Hate women much?)

(Somebody call this guy a WAAAmbulance! Stop manipulating shit to suit your agenda.)

BTW…glad the CREEP who had that disgusting game up on the net is GONE…hope his kind never are allowed such again.

(Glad to see at least you agreed that BEATING A WOMAN TO A BLOODY PULP was wrong. But he’s not gone. Oh, he may have beat a hasty virtual retreat, but he’s still physically around and if I was his girlfriend I would be very nervous. Hope his dream wasn’t to work for a software company as a quick google by someone in HR will result in his application going straight into the trash.)
