Where’s the God of War movie?

God of War Ascension

Get off your knees and make a movie, Kratos!

You can’t swing an old-school wired joystick without hitting a video game that’s currently being turned into a movie. Assassin’s Creed, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Splinter Cell and World of Warcraft are all headed to the big screen sooner rather than later.

And now Paul Walker (from the Fast & Furious flicks) will be scraping a razor across his noggin for a cinematic reboot of Hitman, this time simply called Agent 47. Which sounds like the worst game-to-movie casting choice since Mark Wahlberg played Max Payne.

But where’s Kratos?

Last year we heard a script for a God of War movie was complete and Universal Pictures was on board, but there hasn’t been much talk since. I was curious, so I asked God of War: Ascension game director Todd Papy at a recent Sony preview event in L.A. what the deal is with the cinematic debut of ancient Greece’s angriest warrior.

“I don’t know,” he said. “I don’t know.” So much for that scoop.

But Papy does hope the recent God of War: Ascension live-action commercial will reignite interest in a film. One of the problems I’ve always seen with a God of War movie is Kratos’ distinct look and superhuman build could be tough to replicate with a normal, mortal human. In fact I assumed the Kratos in the ad was at least partially CG, or the result of extensive prosthetics. Not so, according to Papy.

“There are minor prosthetics to get the chin right and some of the nose, but for the most part that is Brandon,” said Papy. (He’s referring to Brandon Myles White, the fitness model who plays Kratos in the commercial.)

“Bodywise, that is Brandon,” said Papy. “The CG stuff is mostly background.”

So maybe a human being could convincingly play Kratos in the movie, when and if it ever happens. But chances are the role won’t go to T. C. Carson, the actor who provides Kratos’ voice in the games.

Even though the 54-year-old Carson did some performance capture for Kratos in God of War: Ascension – the first time the same actor has done the big bald man’s voice and mo-cap – it wasn’t always the best fit.

“T.C. does not move like Kratos,” said Papy. “He’s got dancer hips, and the way he moves – this is going to sound weird, but he sashayed a little too much. We had to take some of that out.”

Id say stone cold steve austin would make the perfct god of war in body and look wise but not in voice wise. I wanna see this game make it, its been a big deal since it came out really. Street Fighter made it, Silent Hill made it, Dead or Alive made it. i understand how ya feel man, i think it would pass up Immortals or Wrath of the Titans, but as we know they’ll cut out alot of blood and guts and maybe puss him out with his brutallness. They’ll also most likely change the story a bit or completely.

Tsvetan Hristov , the guy has the look and the build, and TC carson could b dub’d in for voice

I say there are a few different people that would work good as Kratos, as far as body and fighting goes. The Rock, Jason Stathem, Vin Diesel or even Gerard Butler ( if they made it kinda like 300). With The Rock, Stathem & Diesel they all have the build, moves and even shaved head like Kratos. No matter who they got to do the movie, I would defiantly watch it. I love all of the God of War games, its the only game that I have gotten my wife into she gets hooked on it too, because of the story line and she don’t care for gaming at all

  4. Richard Mitchell says:

I personally believe Bill Goldberg could make a perfect kratos. He would need minor changes to his voice but other than that hed be great!

  5. kevin Jaymoney says:

I think Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will fit the role of Kratos

Tech N9ne should play as kratos. They look similar I don’t know if they sound similar though. But definitely Tech N9ne as Kratos.

My pick for Kratos would be Nathan Jones from a physical build point of view. Of course he played Boagrius in “Troy”. The guy is massive and he’s tall like Kratos. With a little movie magic that he would kill in that role….

  8. Ed Davis says:

I think Michael Jai White would be a perfect Kratos in voice & physique. Or just use the guy Joseph Gatt & add TC Carson’s voice into movie later.. No harm no foul..

  9. Kevin Morrison says:

I agree 100% that the role could only be played perfectly by Nathan Jones. I have thought of this for years.

And Tech n9ne is the stupidest idea ever.

i think either d Rock,Stone cold steven Austin or Goldberg will fit d role of kratos cos of their physical built body and d fighting technics even d voice…….bt i’ll likke d Rock to play d role cos he got it all.

  11. oma seq says:

i would make a good kratos.

  12. oblivious says:

    NATHAN JONES….

  13. kratos says:

the main point here is that the guy must be able to act the role well… and please put a good script behind it.

The Rock, Jason Stathem, Vin Diesel can act well.. vin diesel is the only one that could pass as a Greek, unless you make the entire cast ethnic mix.

than we only need to look at a bold, muscle build actual actor to carry out the greatest game action hero/evil of all times. KRATOS respect the legend, don’t make him weak or build on a love story (soapy story).

  14. chacho says:

Manu Bennett as Kratos! For Spartacus fans, Crixus.

  15. king says:

    the rock

  16. Dita says:

Well, whoever plays Kratos… TC has to do the voice, otherwise, it won’t be Kratos.

  17. John says:

    Bill goldberg

  18. mahdi says:

tom hardy is the best choice if they make up him he will look exactly like kratos and his builds are goo and his height he might be alittle shorter tan kratos and im not sure maybe they are the same and he really is a good actor
