Teen slasher game coming to PS3

Until Dawn

Until Dawn.

Sony has launched a trailer for Until Dawn, a new horror game coming to PlayStation 3 next year.  Inspired by teen slasher films, the game is specifically designed for the PS Move.

The game follows a group of teens who try to find answers to the mysterious disappearance of one of their classmates a year earlier. And like with all horror stories, they end up being slaughtered themselves – most likely while partially naked.

According to the PlayStation blog:

“To play the game you’ll use the PS Move controller in a totally natural way. It’ll act as your torch, guiding your way through the darkness, or when you want to use something the controller will intuitively map your actions in the real world to those of your character’s hand in the game world.”

Hopes are obviously high for this title, as generally speaking, I don’t think many people have been that interested in the PS Move so far. I certainly haven’t. But the trailer for Until Dawn has me intrigued. Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Why don’t you take this slasher game and stick it where the sun don’t shine. Do you not think theres enough creepy games out there now that encourages these screw balls to try doing them. Anything for money.

Well, I didn’t make the game. I just thought the trailer was interesting.

Don chill, talk to the organ grinder, not the monkey.

Adam, you should ask your contacts at sony for a free beta of Dust: 514 by CCP. Dust uses the Move and is sort of a thinking man’s Halo. it will be for mature players but not because of nudity etc. Dust is a game of skill ques and things taking weeks and months to achive and all the while that you are blowing stuff up on the surface, i will be bombarding the planet from space in a totally different game.

Looks like a rip-off of Alan Wake. However possibly worth a play. Too bad it is on the inferior PS3 and not 360

Rick, I agree it’s certainly trying to the same demographic as Alan Wake. But it’s inspiration appears to be different. While Alan Wake was essentially a game about Stephen King being sucked into the horror world he created, filled with townsfolk possessed by, Until Dawn appears to be inspired by 1980s horror films where teens are trapped in an insolated location.

This likely means there is a single assailant (possibly not evem supernatural) with a variety of sharp weapons.

Also, from what I understand, the game is not a third-person shooter but a first-person game when the Move will act as a torch, gun and your way to initiate interactions with other characters in the game.

I’m actually not a fan of first-person play but the fact that (like Alan Wake, Heavy Rain and L.A. Noire) it looks like Until Dawn will be a game that focuses on story may make it worthwhile.

Let’s just hope it’s well-written. Heavy Rain’s terrible thought-out revelation of who the Origami Killer was completely negated everything good about the game up until that point.

Really Don, you need to relax. I have played FPS shooters since Wolfenstein 3d and have never been inspired to run around shooting people. This game, if the reviews are decent, will inspire me to try the move. I like to look and atmosphere of it.

Don, I think you are probably a little too old to be trolling the Buttonmashers blog.
