Did you just get a shiny new iPad 2? Well then, welcome to the club! As you may know, it comes with some cool built-in apps you should try, such as FaceTime for video chatting. There’s a whole world of apps out there though, here are five fantastic apps I recommend downloading to get your tablet experience started:
Netflix – A must have, this app allows you to instantly stream TV shows & movies from Netflix. The app is free but you’ll need to sign up for a Netflix membership (they offer a 30 day free trial). Netflix updated the app’s interface for the iPad 2, allowing you to quickly browse popular genres and watch content instantly. The selection isn’t the freshest but I still use it a fair bit. I think my movie for tonight will be Goonies – Truffle Shuffle!
TED – You may have heard of TED, which presents a series of talks from some of the world’s most interesting people discussing diverse topics like technology, medicine, education, and business. Often these speakers present brilliant ideas that get you looking at things in a whole new light. The TED app is great for a little bit of learning and inspiration on the go.
Fitness Class – I’ve spent the past few months slaving away at the gym so I don’t look like a slob on my honeymoon, which is why I love this helpful app. It keeps me on track by offering tons of workout videos for when I can’t make it to the gym. You can choose from over 230 classes by searching by time, equipment, or goal. Plus, it also estimates how many calories I burned, letting me know if I’ve earned a timbit or two.
Living Earth – Not only can you view high-resolution live 3D renderings of Earth, it also provides global weather, four day forecasts and world clocks for over 22,000 cities around the world.
Doodle Jump – It looks like a silly game, but I have to admit that I’ve logged a ton of time on Facebook playing it. Not only is it insanely addictive, it’s also wildly popular – it’s one of the top-grossing iPhone apps. Now available for iPads, the fun game involves guiding a doodle on its quest to go up by jumping on ledges while overcoming obstacles like black holes and monsters. Trust me, it’s tons of fun. In fact, I need to go play it right now – I can’t wait to beat my last score!
