NHL playoff apps

The puck is about to drop and start an epic showdown between the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins for the Stanley Cup! The online world is abuzz with Playoffs fever and fortunately two of Canada’s best sources for all things NHL now have mobile apps, giving you news and insight on the go. Here are two great apps that ensure you don’t miss a minute of the 2011 NHL playoffs.

Does it get more Canadian than hockey and Don Cherry? Get up-to-date hockey news and highlights with CBC’s Hockey Night In Canada app, available for iPhone, iPad, and Windows Slate. This app will let you browse through all the highlights and scores of the finals, not to mention the ever popular Coach’s Corner. The app gives you access to select segments as the games are going and you can even tap on the game and see detailed, period by period information, such as scores and penalities. I really like the ease navigation of the app’s interface, letting you quickly browse through your favorite team’s information with a few taps.

The other great hockey app I can recommend is Hockeycentral. If you’re a Sportsnet fan then you’ve got to try this free, new app. It keeps you connected with news, scores and stats from the playoffs, and delivers opinions, insider analysis and tweets from the Hockeycentral panel. It’s got a clean, organized interface, with a nice score ticker along the top of the screen, and easy access to a TV schedule for the selected day or region. You can get quick information on individual players, stats; team schedule, standings, and news. It works great on BlackBerry Playbook but don’t bother with the iPad version, it crashes a lot.
