Father’s Day is just around the corner and right now is a great time to help Dad deck out his new iPad. If he doesn’t have one yet, or still has the original model there’s still time to get him one – and here are a few little extras that will go along nicely with it.

 PGATourHD

For the Golfer Dad

If Dad likes to follow the pros on the PGA tour, then in the words of Bob Barker, the “price is right”, on the PGA Tour HD.  Designed for the iPad, this free app is like a virtual backstage pass for the tournament.  Dad can keep on top of the live play-by-play coverage, get live video, tournament highlights and round recaps. He can also stay on top of the stats, get to know the players and more.

ZEPP

Or if Dad thinks he can stack up with the Pros, the Zepp GolfSense Sensor ($129.95) with a free downloadable app for all compatible iOS devices can analyze Dad’s swing in 3D and in real time.  It will instantly provide feedback on what he needs to do to get a little more tiger in his swing. The analysis can be broken down into segments or compared side-by-side with previous swings.

Apogee

For the Musical Dad

For the musical Dad or the wannabe musical Father, ApogeeJAM Guitar Input ($99.95) will allow him to get a high quality true to life guitar sounds for his iPad, iPhone or Mac whether he wants to jam, do some serious recording or just play around. Designed for bass or electrical guitar, this pocket-sized plug and play device works nicely with Apple’s GarageBand software ($4.99)

summitt

For the Protective Dad

Well, this is not so much for the protective Dad as much as protecting the iPad from Dad. The Summit Case by ifrogz ($59.99) combines elegance, functionality and robustness. Designed in a folio style, it’s composed of polyurethane material with contrast stitching and a snap-in polycarbonate core.

It features a loop to hold a stylus, a place for business cards and has added smart technology to switch Dad’s iPad on & off.  It also doubles nicely as a stand.

 skinbruins

For the Personal Dad

There’s nothing more personal for Dad than to let him get his own skin in the game. Ok, well not really his skin, but rather the skin of his favorite team.  A SKINIT device skin is a thin protective skin that’s applied right to the surface of your device. It’s made from a strong, yet lightweight flexible premium vinyl that is custom designed to fit skin tight to your device.

Officially licensed skins can be had for his favorite sports team whether it be the Toronto Raptors, Vancouver Canucks, Blue Jays or even the Maple Leafs – just to name a few. There are even multiple designs for the same team. If Sports is not his bag, design styles are available from Disney and the military to humour and pop culture.  If Dad is an artist at heart, he can design his own skin online right at the Skinit site. And should his tastes change, no worries, the skins are easily removable. SkinIt skins for iPads are $29.95. Skins are available for all of Dad’s other gadgets and even computers. Prices will vary with type.

TekGrab

For the Power Hungry Dad

To keep Dad’s iPad nicely charged, Tekkeon’s new TekCharge MP1820 Pocket Power Pack, ($49.95)  features a higher capacity 4800mAh rechargeable lithium ion battery which will allow Dad to surf the web on his iPad for up to an additional 6 hours. He can also use it for over 20 hours on his iPhone. With the right adapter tips he can safely power almost all of his other gadgets too. As long as the gadgets are 5V the TekCharge can automatically detect whether it needs a 100mA up to a 1.2A draw.  The power pack also doubles as an emergency flashlight.  A colour coded LED will easily tell him how much charge he has left.

Which iPad is right for Dad?

If you’re on a tight budget look at the 16GB iPad 2 with Wi-Fi starting at $419 (Wi-Fi + 3G, $549). However, starting at $519, (Wi-Fi + cellular, $649), only $100 more, the new iPad is entirely an enhanced experience. Some of the new things he can enjoy include a stunning new retina display and a 5-megapixel camera with advanced optics. As well, there is a faster processor and the ultra fast 4G LTE, the next generation high speed connectivity to stream videos faster and help him get those downloads quicker than ever before.  The new iPad, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi +cellular, is also available in 32GB & 64GB models. I’m sure Dad would be thrilled and appreciative with any iPad you get him.
