Tired of the same old plastic bumper case for your iPhone? Have you ever thought of getting one made from wood? But not just any wood. How about an Eastern Hardrock Maple or Oregon Walnut, so you have both coasts covered?

A new series of all-wood bumper cases for the iPhone 5/5S and the 5C, are the latest creations from the Portland-based designer and handcrafter Grovemade, who make them there right on site. They’re a one-piece design and the industry’s first wooden accessory that offers the same durability and functionality of an actual case.

One of its cool features is a slight lip in the frame, which may not seem like much, but it’s just enough to ensure that when laid flat, it actually lifts your iPhone up from the flat surface, giving it that little extra bit of protection.

It’s created through a well-thought out milling process that carves out, ever so elegantly, the slots for all the ports and connectors. It even includes cleverly integrated actuated power and volume control buttons. The headphone jack is designed for Apple Earbuds/ EarPods so you may want to inquire ahead of time to ensure the connector on your favourite pair of headphones or earphones are suitable.

Their process is eco-friendly and efficient too, if that’s important to you, as they actually manage to waste only 5% of the wood they use.

You won’t have to worry about getting any splinters from this puppy; it’s finished off with hand sanding and rubbed in natural oils

It’s ideal for the minimalist who really doesn’t want to hide their iPhone, but at the same time have a little bit of protection.

Oh, and it looks pretty cool, too!

The Grovemade wood Bumper for iPhone 5, 5S and 5C retails for $39.00 U.S. All models are compatible with their Dock for iPhone and will work with most screen and body protectors. They’re available on-line and shipped directly from Grovemade’s workshop.
