Good news Flip Mino fans – the dimunitive camera is getting a refresh. The second generation Flip Mino HD features a brushed metal finish, a larger high res screen and up to two hours of recording time.
I’ve been testing the new Mino for about a week and it continues the build quality and ease-of-use that Flip (and Cisco) have become known for.
The brushed metal back is quite elegant and gives the device some “heft” in-hand but it never feels clunky. You’d think that it might also make the Mino slipperyto hold but I did not find that to be the case.
The larger and new wide screen display is a welcome improvement from the previous model and is easy to view indoors and outdoors.
The new Mino also gains a HDMI port on the bottom of the device for watching your videos on a big screen television.
Cisco wisely decided to keep the included FlipShare software for editing, uploading and other functions that automatically installs on a PC or Mac when the device is plugged in for the first time.
The new Flip Mino HD is priced at $239 and can be ordered online at theflip.com. You will also be able to purchase the device at select retail stores starting July 15, 2010.

The 2 hour record time is a welcomed addition. I’ve found that on more than one occasion, I needed just a little more than the hour on the current model.
