Hands On: Logitech Z515 Wireless Speaker

- January 6th, 2011

Logitech Z515 Wireless Speaker

Let’s face it – most laptops, netbooks and even smartphones don’t come with amazing speakers. Some do a decent job but often listeners on the go are left wanting louder, richer and deeper audio from their devices. There are numerous ways you can remedy this situation, such as plugging in a pair of external speakers but this can be cumbersome, especially if you forget to bring any included wires/plugs along with you.

Fortunately, Logitech has a great sounding solution with their Z515 Wireless Speaker. The device uses a USB dongle to transmit the audio from your computer to the device with no extra software required. It can also connect via Bluetooth to your iPhone or iPad (up to 50 feet away) for wireless audio streaming.

I have been testing the Z515 with my iPhone 4 and it does a very good job of producing audio. If you are a XM Satellite subscriber, the XM online+ app gives you access to all of the available channels. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t take advantage of background multitasking on iOS 4 but it is very easy to navigate by genre or channel and faithfully replicates the standalone satellite music experience.

The Z515 also has a built-in battery that is good for up to 10 hours of listening – this is a great feature should you forget the power adapter at home!

The suggested price of the Logitech Z515 is $109.99.

Verdict: The Logitech Z515 is a great choice for high quality audio on the go or at home with  easy to use wireless connections from your laptop or iPhone/iPad.

How do you actually replace the battery?

  4. This speaker would be perfect for my Samsung R522 Laptop. Gonna pick one up next week. The speakers on this computer are extremely weak. It sounds like a tin can!
