And friend of mine loves his kindle. But for my self, I use my playbook. You can not rent from the library yet on Kindle. At least not in Calgary. You can on the blackberry. It may not be as nice of a read but for me it fine.

My guess is that the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD will eventually be available in Canada. And when they are – the apps will be too. Granted, it may not be until they come out with the next generation of the devices.

Are we ever going to be able to download anything but books to ther kindle fire or HD if it comes to canada? I have a kindle fire, love it as an ereader and checking email and facebook, but the “wonderful” media and apps for it from the kindle store are not available in canada.

I have a Paperwhite and think it’s great! White I have the older (and now discontinued) large Kindle DX that I love and use daily, with the new Paperwhite I can read in bed without turning on a light waking the wife.

No, it’s my fault. Originally, I wrote these were the first Kindles available in Canada because earlier versions weren’t available through Amazon.ca. Vince was just pointing out that he could buy a Kindle from Staples.

But the Kindles mentioned in Amazon’s announcement today, the Paperwhite and the current generation Kindle, are available for the first time in Canada.

Kindle paperwhites were not available in Canada until today. You had to order from amazon.com to an American address and then get someone there to ship it up. You couldnt even get amazon.com to ship one to Canada. And, they werent in Staples or anywhere else. I know…I tried to get one.

I agree that having the Kindle Fires here would be bigger news – as the time for e-readers is fading anyway.

You could already buy a Kindle through places like Staples in Canada or through Amazon.ca. What would be big news is if you could by the Kindle Fire/Kindle Fire HD in Canada. This isn’t news.
