Apple bumps speed, drops prices on MacBook Pro with Retina display

- February 13th, 2013

MacBookPro Retina

In a surprise move and just in time for Valentine’s Day, Apple has sweetened the appeal of the MacBook Pro with Retina display by updating the processors with a little more horsepower and lowering prices on some of the configurations making them a little more affordable.

The change effects both the 13-inch and 15-inch models. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display can now be had for starting price of $1,499 and comes with 128GB of flash. For a little more horsepower $1,699 will get you a new 2.6GHz Intel Core i5 dual-core processor with 256GB of flash storage.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display has also been updated. It’s now equipped with a faster 2.4GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core processor and starts at $2,199. At the upper end of the 15- inch range comes a model with the new 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of memory and 512GB of flash for $2,799.

On the lighter side, the 13-inch MacBook Air with 256GB of flash memory has been dropped to $1,399.

There doesn’t appear to be any other changes to the models, except for pricing and processors.

The updated MacBook Pro with Retina display and MacBook Air  models are available now through the Apple Online Store and your favourite Apple dealers. Complete pricing, specs and other options are available through Apple Canada’s website.
