Apple announced this morning that the third-generation iPad or just iPad as it’s called will be “arriving” as scheduled on-line on, Friday March 16th and available that same morning at retail stores beginning at 8:00 AM local time.
This should be interesting, as it appears once again the launch of a new Apple product will create a buzz and the buying frenzy as it has done in the past. Just as Apple introduced the new iPad last Wednesday at the Apple event in San Francisco, presales were brisk. In fact many people complained that they actually couldn’t get on Apple’s site to access the store to place their pre-orders.
There have been a number of reports that people that got in early on the presales should get their prized possessions by this Friday; others, even those that were purchased during presale were supposedly being advised by e-mail that their units would not be shipped until the following Monday, March 19.
If you try to sign on to the Apple online store right now to buy the new iPad, you are greeted with the message “Order the new iPad now and get free shipping (delivery times vary; see cart for details). Available in Apple Retail stores starting March 16.”
When you actually go to select an iPad, it tells you for all models 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB, both Wi-Fi and 4G models that availability is in 2 to 3 weeks.
Based on that, it should be really interesting to see this Friday, if people will be camped out overnight; how long the lineups will be at the Apple retail stores and how many people will be able to go home at some point that day with their new iPad under their arm.
It looks like Apple has hit yet another home run with the new iPad and it’s not even in stores yet.
iPad In a Nutshell
In a nutshell, the new iPad features Apple’s new A5X processor with a high-definition, high-resolution Retina display with more pixels than an HD TV. It has an improved 5 megapixel iSight camera with autofocus and HD video recording; It also features 4G LTE connectivity and Bluetooth 4.0 technology. Prices start at $519 which remain unchanged from those of the current iPad 2.
Lower Priced iPad 2
If you’re just dipping your little toe into the iPad world and are looking at the 16 GB iPad 2 model the site says available in 1 to 2 business days, so no shortage of those. You’ll be able to pick one of up, starting at $419, a hundred dollars less than before.
