As some Canadians wait the arrival the arrival of the iPhone 5S and 5C with bated breath, Apple Canada has officially announced that the new models will be available in retail stores this Friday, September 20th at 8:00AM local time as well as through their on-line store starting at 3:01AM EDT.
The good news is that if you’re purchasing on a contract, your commitment will only be for two years instead of the previous three, but if you caught the U.S. pricing at the Apple Event keynote, you’ll note that you’ll be paying just a little bit more than your friends south of the border.
With the Canadian Dollar in constant fluctuation and trading at about 5% below that of the U.S. one would have hoped that prices would have been on par with our neighbours to the south. Expect to pay about $30 more for all models, except for the 64GB 5S which will be $40 more which equates to $1.25-$1.67 per month over the life of the contract.
iPhone 5S features a new thin and light design, including the Apple-designed A7 64-bit chip, all-new 8 megapixel iSight camera with True Tone flash and Touch ID fingerprint recognition. iPhone 5C also features an all-new design; a 4-inch Retina display, A6 chip, and the 8 megapixel iSight camera—all with improved battery life. Both new iPhones feature iOS 7, the most significant iOS update since the original iPhone, featuring a stunning new user interface and over 200 new features. (See our coverage of last Tuesday’s Apple Event for more details on the new models.)
Suggested Canadian retail prices, with contract, are as follows:
iPhone 5S: 16GB $229.95, 32GB $329.95 and 64GB $439.95 and available in gold, silver and space grey.
iPhone 5C: 16GB $129.95, 32GB $229.95 and available in blue, green, pink, yellow and white.
iPhone 5S cases will retail for $45 and iPhone 5C cases will be $35.
Apple will continue to offer free personal set-up service and customization for those who purchase at an Apple retail outlet.
If you like options, in Canada, in addition to Apple Retail and On-line stores, the new iPhones will also be available through Bell, Fido, Koodo, Rogers, Telus, Virgin mobile and select big box stores like Best Buy, Future Shop, Target and Walmart stores as well as through Apple Authorized Resellers.
Should be interesting to see what the lineups will look like in the wee hours of this coming Friday morning.
