Good news for Canuck iPad purchasers – May 28th is the day you get to stand in line at Apple stores throughout the country to get your mitts on an iPad. Pre-orders for the device start May 10th.
Apple announced the date this morning, with Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK getting the tablet and access to the iBookstore.
Canadians can expect to pay $549 for 16GB, $649 for 32GB, $749 for 64GB for Wi-Fi models and $679 for 16GB, $779 for 32GB and $879 for 64GB for Wi-Fi + 3G models.
Folks in Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore will have to wait until July to get in on the action.
Apple has sold more than a million units of the iPad in the U.S. since going on sale in April.
I, for one won’t be standing in line to get this limited and flawed gadget from Apple!
No USB, No Ethernet, No camera and Wi-Fi that doesn’t work everywhere!
Read the Forums and there are a lot of people who regret buying this device!
Kind of a waste of money, I think!
I guess Mikey doesn’t like it…
It could be because he wants an ethernet port. If you want an ethernet port on a device like this, you are looking at it for the wrong reasons.
If on the other hand you realize this is a forward thinking product with a lot of upside compared to it’s small faults (I will admit, no camera is a small issue, but with every other device out there now having a camera I think I’ll be fine with out it).
Oh, and Mikey, it does support USB as well (check the internet forums… Oh wait, you did and missed this information… Its called the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit).
To each their own, I guess. I’ll be pre-ordering this device on May 10, and look forward to the home delivery on May 28th.
I wonder if there will be useful 3G plans in Canada as in the US (i.e. a 29.99 “unlimited” plan)? With Canada’s wireless carriers, I doubt it – and with the data rates they caharge in Canada, the 3G is useless.
@Redge:
I never said that I didn’t like it, I merely stated that it’s limited and that the W-Fi doesn’t work everywhere!
There are NO USB ports on the IPad and the Camera connection kit is not what I and many others would use the USB ports for!
If and only IF you were smart, which you’re obviously not, you would wait for the 2nd Generation IPad, which should have the missing features!
You must be an Apple fanboy and not a very smart one!
Enjoy your limited featured toy!
Do your homework and do some research before wasting your money. Read the many comments/complaints from current IPad users and see for yourself!
People like you have more money than brains, so it seems!
Yep! That must be it!
Yea, I doubt it, too! No such thing as useful 3G plans in this country! Everything’s a rip off, here!
Mikey’s right, the IPad is missing some important features and from what I’ve also read, the Wi-Fi seems to only work in the users homes and craps out when taken elsewhere.
What’s the sense of that?
Tell me something, Redge….how do you plan on transferring files, pictures, etc, from another device to the IPad without either a Firewire or USB port? Can’t be done!
As for the camera, most people will use their cell phone cameras or their point and shoot devices for taking pictures, but a built in camera on the IPad would be nice!
The IPad may be a forward thinking device, however, this is a first release, meaning that Apple will take the users comments and suggestions and implement them into future generation IPads, so yea, as Mikey stated, it would be wise to hang on for a while and see what improvements Apple will make.
It’s typical of the Americans to go gung ho when a new gadget is released, then whine and cry the blues when it either doesn’t work as they expected or they want better features, not initially found!
I’m another one who will wait to see what Apple does later on.
Besides, there’s competition out there and from what I’ve read, the HP Slate looks very promising!
It won’t have Win7, so that’s a good start!
Very true! A nice innovative device from Apple, but missing some useful features.
What was Apple thinking when they omitted the USB Ports? Can’t plug in a Flash stick anywhere, so that was kinda dumb on their part!
It’s kind of a clunky device for taking pictures, but many current users want one.
There are and will be other IPad type devices coming out soon, so I’ll check them out before making my purchase!
You sound like the type of person who buys a pair of shoes without trying them on, then complain when your feet hurt!
Do you buy a car without test driving it, or check out what other car makers have to offer, often for less and with better standard equipment?
I guess not, huh? Figures!
He’s an Apple fanboy who buys the latest and not so greatest gadgets, only because he got snowed by all the hype and nonsense Steve Jobs laid on him!
Let’s see what he says or does when he’s sitting at a patio or at work and his Wi-Fi is dead
$879 for 64GB for Wi-Fi and he can’t do a darn thing with it!
Loser!
“Tell me something, Redge….how do you plan on transferring files, pictures, etc, from another device to the IPad without either a Firewire or USB port? ”
Simple, by plugging in the cord that has a USB connector on one end and the 32pin connector on the other. Just like with every iPod, iTouch and iPhone already in use.
You didn’t even bother reading the technical specs of the device, did you?
Probably wait for 2G, more features most likely appear then. Rumours, engineers working on video cam etc
Am sure hoping data plans available from major telco, usually Canadian Telco’s seem unprepared.
Hope people stop complaining as Ipad is not for everyone. HP’s slate is already reporting problems, Win 7 memory hog and adds cost to the unit, Intel chip too expensive etc…….
Now it does make sense why Apple chose OS and processor etc………….
I have one, I love it, I am Canadian.
It’s for consumption of information, not creation of it.
There’s a market for these type of users.
