Jorno pocket foldable keyboard revisited

- September 28th, 2012

Jorno

Back in 2010, here at CanoeTech Blog we previewed the Jorno foldable keyboard, a small and innovative solution for those who loved their mobile devices but preferred the touchy-feely of a real keyboard. It has still not yet come to market, as it seems the creators are in need of some cash and are looking at crowdsourcing the funding.

They’ve enrolled their project in Kickstarter, a funding platform and program where backers like you and me can pledge to back a project, in this case for as little as a $1 pledge. So far, in 10 days, the Jorno project has gained 628 backers yielding about $55,000 in pledges towards their $100,000 goal with 18 days left to go. The project will only be funded if they reach the target by Wednesday, Oct 17th 3:17AM EDT.

In a nutshell, Jorno is a Bluetooth enabled keyboard, created to leave smallest possible footprint in your backpack or pocket. It’s designed with a five-way fold such that in its smallest state, it measures a mere 3.5” x 3.5” x 1.2”. When unfolded, it expands to 8.5” x 3.5” x 0.3”, giving you ample finger space to type. It weighs only 8.8oz and runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.  A detachable cradle with a stowable kickstand with a rubberized surface will help you keep your device upright and steady.

It’s very versatile. While it’s compatible with iOS devices – iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, it should also run on the Mac OS, Windows 7 & 8, Vista & XP as well as Android OS, Symbian and WebOS.

According to the company, their team of engineering and consumer electronics professionals has been working for 2 years to perfect the product. While the final product is still yet to be seen, one of their prototypes – they have 5, received a Design and Engineering Showcase Honors in the innovations category at CES 2011.

If you haven’t already read our preview, check it out, or visit  Jorno’s Kickstarter project page, for further information.
