After 2 1/2 decades with the same look Microsoft unveils a new logo for the company. The logo will consist of 2 components; their symbol consisting of the 4 colour squares signifying its diverse portfolio of products and a logotype in the Segoe font, the same one used in their marketing communications.
According to today’s post on the Official Microsoft Blog, by Jeff Hansen, general manager, brand strategy, Microsoft, they feel that it’s an ideal time for the change, as the company is preparing to release new versions of most of their products.
“From Windows 8 to Windows Phone 8 to Xbox services to the next version of Office you will see a common look and feel across these products providing a familiar and seamless experience on PCs, phones, tablets and TVs,” posts Hansen.
Hansen goes on to add is that the new branding goes beyond reimagining the products he says it also represents a new era for Microsoft.
While I have not officially seen a press release to this effect, Hansen’s blog post indicates that the new logo will be used prominently beginning today.
Of course the full implementation across every channel will take a little time.
