If you’re a subscriber to Telus Optik TV (IPTV) and Optik Internet, you no longer have to reach for your smart phone, iOS device, computer or tablet to let your friends and followers know with a simple click, what you’re watching. The company has added a free Twitter app available to subscribers, so they can tweak to their hearts content right from their TV while still watching their program.

The app, developed by Telus and ES3, the premier developer of interactive TV applications uses the Optik’s remote control to allow users to not only tweet what they’re watching, but also view their feeds, follow others and even check out what’s trending.

What’s neat is that it doesn’t require switching away from the TV channel that’s being viewed as the app is designed to “wrap” around the television’s screen.

This is the newest app to be added to this service. FaceBook, TumbleBooks, a kid’s app that plays back interactive e-Books and Black’s Photo Lab which allows you to view and share digital photos, Santa Tracker and MusicRoom are already available.

All these apps are a function of the service rather than the hardware it’s attached to. But then again, there are mobile apps for that!

The Optic TV Twitter app is compatible with Optik TV on your television only and currently for subscribers in Alberta, British Columbia and Eastern Quebec. It is not available for Optik TV on the go, a recently introduced offering that allows you to watch some, but not all of your Optik TV content wirelessly on your laptop, tablets and other mobile devices.
