As the white smoke emerges from the chimneys of the Sistine Chapel and all eyes are on the Vatican as the election of a new Pope, the successor to Joseph Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI is on the minds of many, here are a few iOS apps that for lack of a better term are “Papal Inspired”.

3Strike Popes by MmpApps Corp ($0.99) is a little game that gives you the years of the Pope’s reign and you have to guess which Pope it is. As the name indicates, three strikes and you’re out.

Conclave by Logos Bible Software is a free app offering news and information on the election of the new Pope as well as the best of Catholic news. The app looks at the history of the Conclave and how it operates today.

Popechart by Popcorn Media, also free, offers biographies of what are referred to as the most “papable” Cardinals of the Catholic Church. You can have a look at the candidates, vote for your favourites and follow the charts.

Sistine

Vatican 3D HD for iPad by Paolo Tuttoilmondo offers a free virtual tour of the Vatican with pictures in both HD and 3D.  The 3D photography is offered courtesy of the University of Villanova from Pennsylvania in the U.S.

These are just a few of the many iOS apps for Papal enthusiasts and followers around the world to keep you informed, entertained and test your papal knowledge as the emergence of a new Pope after eight years is imminent.

Update: March 13th, 3:14PM:  The new pope is Argentinian Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio – Pope Francis I.
