If there are 2 TV shows on at the same time, we typically would watch one and PVR or record the other. But in reality, we live in a multitasking world, so why not watch both at once? We’ve stacked our TVs during major events, especially in the spring during the Stanley Cup playoffs. We also have TVs that offer a picture in picture – but how about pumping that up to watching 4 shows simultaneously?

If you’re a customer of Telus Optik TV, you’ll be able to do so, all at once and all on the same screen. It’s called Multi-View.

“Multi-View on Optik is the perfect addition for anyone who wants to see what’s happening on your favourite channels without having to switch back and forth,” said David Fuller, Chief Marketing Officer at TELUS. “Multi-View will definitely be put to good use by our customers, especially the TV fans who can’t get enough of great sports coverage this summer. They can follow four events or games simultaneously then quickly jump to the full screen when the action picks up. Multitasking has never been easier.”

When you are in Multi-View mode, you’ll see one channel displayed in the main (larger) window – and that one will have audio. Simultaneously, you’ll also see three other channels displayed in smaller windows. It’s run through the Multi-View app, which allows you to add, change and flip to channels quickly and easily. You can also create up to 5 themed lists that allow you to group your selections, like sports, news, cartoons, etc., so you can jump to them in an instant.

Create Themed Lists

Themes lists and Multi-View can be handy with busy sports weekends, especially with the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games starting this Friday. You’ll have the ability to watch events taking place on 4 different channels. Cool!

Now if you’re an Optik TV purists, there are a few tradeoffs you might have to make for the luxury of watching 4 shows at once. You will be able to set your PVR, but you won’t be able to access the Interactive Programming Guide while in the app. Furthermore, since HD eats tons of bandwidth, so you won’t be able to add an HD (High Definition) channel to Multi-View. If an SD (Standard Definition) equivalent is available, it will be substituted. Telus has a comprehensive FAQ on Multi-View on their site.

The Multi-View App is available to all Telus Optik TV customers at no additional charge.
