I had a chance to meet with the folks at Samsung recently to talk about their new netbooks and notebooks. While they haven’t been as big a player in Canada, that’s about to change, with a new lineup for 2010.
Because Samsung is such a diverse company, it is able to manufacture 70 per cent of the components in its laptops, including batteries. This, combined with proprietary battery optimization software, gives many of their netbooks up to 11 hours of battery life. That’s going to come in handy on a long flight or if you just forget to recharge before getting up and going.
All of Samsung’s new netbooks come equipped with the latest Intel N450 processor and Windows 7 Starter Edition. The NB30 netbook has a sensor that protects data on its hard drive if the computer is knocked over while the N210 & N220 netbooks come with Phoenix’s HyperSpace “instant-on” capability. This feature is particularly nice as it takes mere seconds to load and provides access to your email and other important information.
On the notebook side, Samsung has dropped Intel’s Core i3 and i5 processors into their newest models, along with NVIDIA discrete graphics, 500GB hard drives and 4GB of memory. I was most impressed with the build quality and finish (called “Touch of Colour” by Samsung) of these new laptops.
Bottom line: Samsung is producing high quality netbooks and notebooks with their newest lineup that should be seriously considered by all prospective buyers.
