Accessorize and accentuate Mom’s new iPhone 4s

So you’ve decided that Mom’s old clamshell phone has more than run its lifecycle and it’s time for her to enter into the 21st century with a new iPhone. Now you know Mom will love you no matter what you get her, but she does like a little pampering, now and again. So why not help her accessorize and accentuate her new little pride and joy?

Stylish Protection

To protect her iPhone she needs a case. How about one with an innovative modern design? Just announced is the Elan Form Chilewich 2012 ($39.99) line by designer Sandy Chilewich, created in partnership with Griffin Technology. It has a slim-line pocket design with an outer layer of woven textile and impact resistant polycarbonate shell. It comes in 5 design colours that include, Pearl, Mahogany, Pearl, Toffee and Black. Sounds like candy to me, sweet!

Spark

Crystal Clear Buds

Next, how about stepping up the earbuds/microphone? Inspired by of all things, a spark plug, the Spark by ID America high-definition in-ear headphones ($59.95) will not only enhance Mom’s listening pleasure, they’re pretty stylish too. Made from machined aluminum and available in 9 different finishes including cherry green, rose pink champagne gold and royal purple, they’re designed to allow Mom to tune out the world while providing a crisp and vivid sound. They come with 3 pairs of silicone eartips as well as an in-line microphone module that also acts is remote control for her music. It comes in a nice little mom-approved gift box and ships with a cute premium leather carrying case.

On the Road

When driving in the car, Mom certainly likes to take her phone with her. Of course she respects all distracted driving laws and so she’ll use her phone hands-free, but likes to keep it where she can see it. For that you want to consider getting her the Universal USB Power Dock Pro Flex by Bracketron ($34.95). This cool little gadget is actually a smartphone holder with a 12V USB charger that plugs right in to the cigarette lighter adapter. It has a sturdy flexible neck that can rotate 360° and a power grip to snugly secure her phone. It also has a standard 5V USB charging port so she can recharge her iPhone or other compatible devices while she’s driving.

Hands-Free Speaker Phone

To take calls consider getting Mom a SuperTooth Crystal($69.95). No, it has nothing to do with eating, but rather it’s a Bluetooth speakerphone to allow Mom to talk hands-free. This is a new model which works in almost any car and clips to the visor with a magnetic clip. It can potentially automatically pair up to 2 phones simultaneously. It supports voice recognition dialing and you can tell how much battery life remains, rated at 20-hours talk-time, as it can display it right on your iPhone’s screen.

The Leash

Two more things. We know Mom is not in the habit of losing things, that’s a blue job, not a pink one (Thanks Kim D.) But just in case, consider getting her a leash for her iPhone. Made by ZOMM, the Wireless Leash Plus ($89.95) we peaked at earlier this week at Canoe Tech Blog will alert Mom in case she leaves her iPhone where she shouldn’t. It can also act as a panic alarm and emergency dialer just in case. The Plus version also has a free downloadable app to allow her to customize her leash or track it.

Protecting her Home (Button)

We don’t want little Suzy accidentally deleting Mom’s address book, so the best cure for that, other than hiding her phone, is to get her a couple of BubCaps by Paperclip Robot  - teeny little covers that can toddler proof or kid proof your iPhone’s or iPad’s home button. They’re flexible enough for an adult to push through to make contact but rigid enough to keep out the little fingers and thumbs from doing any harm. They come in 4 different strengths (Regular, Ultra Max & Pro). The first 3 are made from latex-free plastic and the latter from aluminum ($6-$10 for a pack of 4).

So these are just a few things you can get to accessorize and accentuate Mom’s iPhone 4S (Thanks to my fellow Toastmaster Judy Szpreglewski for the phraseology). Some products are currently available, others like the SuperTooth Crystal are hot off the press, but I’m sure Mom would lovingly accept your IOU.  I guess you still have to decide whether she’ll be getting a 16GB, 32GB or 64GB iPhone model and whether it will be black or white.

To all Mothers out there, Happy Mother’s Day, this Sunday!

I think this is the first time I have seen a iPhone review written by a man, for women… and as they are at least 50% of the market it just makes perfect sense…

    Well done

Thanks Wayne! There are certainly lady geeks out there! I met a number of great lady bloggers ( and Mommy Bloggers) at the recent BlogWest conference in Edmonton.
