If you can turn your favorite tunes into ringtones for your cell phone, why not do the same or your doorbell? Well, with the Swann MP3 DJ Doorbell, that possibility is just a push of a button away.

The battery operated wireless doorbell system consists of two components, the push-button doorbell and a speaker unit (receiver).  It runs off the 433MHz frequency that can transmit up to a range of 50-100M, which gives you a number of options to place the receiver within your home or office.

And it’s easy to install.

The doorbell attaches to your door with the included self adhesive tape. The speaker unit can be placed almost anywhere; it can also be attached to your wall with 2 screws. It has 90MB of built-in memory along with a sampling of 32 built-in ringtones. However it also has an SD card slot that allows you to add up to 32GB of your own.  To do that, you can simply copy MP3 files onto your SD card then insert it into the speaker unit. Alternately, you can hook the speaker unit up to your computer with the included USB cable. The package comes with Windows based editing software on CD to create ringtones by grabbing snippets of your tunes, but really, any audio editing software would work for that.

What’s also neat is that the speaker unit also has its own set of controls, so if you choose, you can use it as a standalone MP3 player.

The Swann Wireless MP3 DJ Music Doorbell system has a glossy white modern design, which allows it to fit in esthetically almost anywhere. The doorbell runs off 12V DC powered by the included 23A or 27A battery. The speaker unit takes 3 X AA batteries, which you will have to supply yourself.  It retails for $54.99 and is available in Canada from Home Hardware and online at Amazon.ca.
