With the release of the Optimus 4X HD later this month, LG will no longer playing catch-up in the mobile phone market, it’s setting the bar. Not only is it the company’s first quad-core phone to launch here (the Optimus G, which I wrote a preview on last month isn’t out until November), it is, to my knowledge, the only quad-core phone currently available in Canada.

I had the chance to look at the new LG Optimus G at a media event Wednesday. I didn’t have much time to play around with the phone, due out in early November, but here are my first impressions:
HTC Desire C
I have to admit, I’m getting quite spoiled by all the high-end smartphones I get to review that can serve as your one-stop shop for communication, playing media and making videos. But not everyone is looking to shell out a couple of hundred dollars just to have the most cutting edge phone of the week. If you’re looking for a reliable device that won’t leave you penniless and begging for doughnut money on the street corner, then the HTC Desire C may be the phone for you.
LG Optimus L7
I find it odd strange that a company would name a phone after a derivative of the ’50s slang term “square,” but that’s exactly what LG did with its Optimus L7. Not just because square means uncool, but because referencing the ’50s makes the phone sound like a relic. But then… retro is in again!. And the ’50s are really retro. So perhaps using a decades-old term for uncool, makes it cool.
HTC One S
It’s hard to review the HTC One S phone after reviewing the One X as they’re essentially the same phone. As such, most of my praise and criticism is the same.
