Apple rolls out iPhone 5, new iPods and EarPods

For some it was a long time coming, but earlier today at the Apple event in San Francisco, the company announced, as expected, the new and improved iPhone 5. They also took the opportunity to announce new iPods, updated earbuds (dubbed EarPods), as well as a new iTunes. It seems for the most part, the rumour mill had it right and in some cases surprisingly dead on!

iPod nano & touch updates announced at Apple Event

Apple has a tradition of typically having a music event each Fall and while we thought it might be a miss this year as all eyes and ears seemed to be focusing on the pending iPhone announcement, there was in fact news on the iPod front.There were no substantial redesigns, but there were some enhancements, colour changes and price adjustments that are well worth noting.

An Android alternative to the iPod Touch

My iTouch recently died so I’ve been on the lookout for something similar. I’ve been drawn to Android products lately and came across the ARCHOS 43 tablet, which is essentially an Android version of the iTouch, offering essentials like a camera, HD video playback, apps, and Internet browsing. It has 16 GB memory (there is an 8 GB version as well) and a built-in leg stand which allows me to prop it up on my desk and stream the hockey game while I work.

Something that was mentioned in the big Apple music event last week was the addition of FaceTime in the new iPod Touch along with a hint of FaceTime coming to the next iPad down the road. Of course, the iPod Touch doesn’t have a phone app so there’s a separate FaceTime app on it.
