Ontario-based Research In Motion, makers of the new BlackBerry Torch, certainly think so. From a swanky Toronto launch to a series of hip TV commercials, the Torch’s coming out party has been unprecedented for RIM, and it shows just how much the company needs this new smartphone to be a hit.

Blackberry broke with tradition in more ways than one today by rolling out their new Blackberry Torch 9800 phone with a big press event. The phone is also a departure from RIM’s usual corporate customers. This new phone seems aimed more at consumers, as RIM announced their first slider-style phone with both a touch screen and tactile keyboard.
