We test out a lot of apps at GetConnected and the coolest one I’ve come across this week is Sonar. Have you ever been at an event or party and later discovered that you’re friend or colleague had attended as well? The Sonar app (available for free for iPhone and iPad) makes sure you don’t miss another connection. With it you can walk into a room and find and connect with friends, business contacts, fellow alumni, your social media followers, or even like-minded singles.

While Twitter only gives you 140 characters to work with, it can be a powerful tool in terms of not only getting your message out to the masses, but having it read and acted upon. While some feel it’s a waste of time, others think Facebook is totally the way to go and some just don’t get it. I on the other hand, use it daily to get the message out my followers of what I’m up to, what’s happening out there in technology and to remind readers when I have a new post up at Canoe Tech blog.

Many people today are still skeptical about the actual value of using social media to promote their business ventures. However, social media has rapidly evolved and become hugely popular. Considering it’s the biggest activity on the Internet today, it makes sense to capture people’s attention where they are spending their time. Also, most social tools are free, so the only investment really needed is time.
