Safari 5

On Monday Apple released Safari 5, the latest version of their popular web browser, and is available for download on their website. Whether you’re a Mac user or a PC user, Safari 5 is yours to download – for free.

With an upgrade to Nitro Engine, Safari 5 claims to be twice as fast as Firefox 3.6 and 3% faster than Google Chrome 5.

The following are some of its latest upgrades:

Bing

Just like the iOS4, Safari 5 will have the option to make Bing the preferred search engine but “Google will stay the default,” says Steve Jobs.

Reader

In the address bar, the “RSS” icon will change to a “Reader” icon when it detects an article on a web page. “Safari Reader removes annoying ads and other visual distractions from online articles. So you get the whole story.” The article will appear in a continuous print-friendly view where it allows you to zoom, change text size, email, and print.

Smarter Address Field

Type a word or words into the address bar and Safari will match the word(s) according to your bookmarks and history. And it will also offer website suggestions. Perfect for constant web surfers who forget to bookmark.

It’s true for javascript acceleration, which is what they claimed.

Are you even going to notice a 3 or 5% difference? I doubt it.
Firefox is a great browser that you can easily customize.
Google Chrome is fast, but lacks some of the extensions that Firefox has.

I’ll give the new version of Safari a spin though to see what it’s like.

    Thanks.

Never liked Safari and yes, I tested earlier versions! If it doesn’t work well on a MAC, how can it be expected to play nice with Windozz?

Apple made a false claim about Safari being the fastest, so what’s with that? Are they getting desperate or just full of crapola?

Chrome is quite decent, but my main reason for Not using it, is that it calls home!! All the web sites you visit get sent to Google for their own usage and that’s not something I am willing to live with!

As for Internet Exploder (IE) well, everybody in the know is smart enough to avoid that flawed, bug infested Browser!

Firefox is fast enough, very secure and bug-free for the most part! Mozilla does a great job with updates and that’s good enough for me! :)
