A Porsche Design stainless steel BlackBerry?

We’ve seen gold plated iPads and diamond encrusted iPhones, so why not a cool funky luxurious BlackBerry for that special someone? BBM enthusiasts, you will be happy to know that you have not been forgotten.

The Porsche Design P’9981 SmartPhone from BlackBerry is certainly in a class of its own. It’s struck with a premium forged stainless steel frame complete with a rich fully genuine leather backing, a tactile QWERTY keyboard, of course, and a 2.8-inch touchscreen.

Once you get past the stainless steel and leather, it’s still a real BlackBerry. Under the hood is a 1.2GHz processor, 8GB of RAM, dual band Wi-Fi, 720p HD video recording and a 5-megapixel camera. It also comes with world travel chargers, a replaceable battery and VIP 24 hour tech support. Oh and yes, for a nice added touch, it does have a custom leather charging stand.

While we know that the BlackBerry is a creation of Ontario-based, Research in Motion, this particular model is actually designed in Europe.

As expected, the Porsche Design P’9981 Smartphone from BlackBerry will run you a little more than a typical handset. However, unlike other gem infused designs, this one won’t quite cost you an arm and a leg. It retails for $1890, a little over the equivalent of 200 shares of RIM and would make a nice little stocking stuffer.

It ships unlocked, should be compatible with all Canadian carriers and is available through the Porsche Design Store.

This is the worst phone I have ever had the displeasure of using. I had 4 versions of it, and each one had a separate issue. The staff at the stores are beyond rude, and only replace each phone following a laborious wait whilst they get clearance from head office. This phone is an insult to both Porsche and Blackberry (and that is saying something to blackberry who have had more knocks than a front door). These guys need to chat to the Vertu sales team and understand that when you sell a luxury phone, certain quality and attitude measures need to be adhered to. This phone is utter rubbish, please dont buy any version of it. You are better off setting fire to 2 grand, at least it will generate you some warmth !

David, Sorry to hear about that. Good customer service should be expected regardless of the price you pay.
