Burris worst player in Bears history?

- April 17th, 2011

There’s been a long time between Calgary Stampeders news, so this is a harsh way to get back into it.
On a lazy Sunday afternoon watching three hockey games and a multitude of baseball, I managed to run across this little story.
This writer says that Stampeders quarterback Henry Burris, the reigning CFL most outstanding player, might just be the worst player in Chicago Bears history.
Wow. Two starts is all it took.
Now clearly Burris didn’t excel in his NFL stint with the Bears. He had a QB rating of 28.4 and five interceptions plus two fumbles.
But saying he’s the worst ever is a gross miscalculation. There must be hundreds of weak players at other positions without the high profile of the QB.
There is no doubt that Burris wasn’t ready for prime time when he finished out the 2002 season as the starter. His entire NFL stint (and brief stint with the Berlin Thunder) actually hampered his development.
Maybe Burris was just a late bloomer. He continues to get better well into his 30s and doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
His detractors will always be there, no matter how many Grey Cups victories, awards he collects or games he wins.
He’s a gunslinger of the highest degree, but he’s definitely not the worst of anything.

Yes is he is. He makes poor decisions in important games. He has wowed the media with a big goofy grin and naturally the media can’t see thru his bullshit. His nauseating interview with Kerr on the Fan960 in which Kerr basically told him that the Fan loved him was sickening to say the least. Give us two years of substance over style and maybe we could forget about Flutie and Dickenson. Right now, he is one step above Crandall, nothing better.

I disagree!! Take a pill, Rob. Burris is one of Calgary’s top quarterbacks past and present. He’s the best in Calgary and the best in the CFL right now.

I watched Henry play for the thunder. His first four passes were picked which resulted in 28 points for the oppisition . His team was down 28-0 midway through the first quarter. Then he got yanked

Rob – obviously you have never played any sport and have no idea what it takes to make it to the top level. Henry did not do well in Chicago but was he the only one on the field, no the whole team was terrible and he had no protection! I believe Hank would have been a great quarterback in a diffrent system in the states and with diffrent coaching. He is easily the most gifted athelete to play for the Stampeders!!!

Burris was deemed by this Chicago sports writer to be the worst quarterback in that clubs 90 year history, based upon only 2 starts, third string reps, and a game against the eventual Super Bowl Champions, who also had the NFL’s #1 ranked defence? Give me a break!

Oh brother the slimy green slime has something to comment on. Maybe just go climb back in the toilet bowl again. Burris played what three games hardly a player that played enough to be called out as the worst. Must of been a slow day in the sports department.
