What Happens When The LRT Boss Leaves?

- March 6th, 2012

Better mention right away, it’s not happening in Ottawa, where John Jensen is the city’s rail chief.

But in Waterloo Region, the municipality’s rail director Nancy Button is taking a job as a transportation consultant in Toronto. A story today by the Waterloo Region Record says it will take up to six months to replace her. The region is constructing a $818-million, 36-km surface LRT system.

I can only imagine what kind of alarms would sound in Ottawa if Jensen left, especially since he has kept the ship on course, and in fact, sped it up. It’s hard to imagine someone from outside the city picking up a complex transit project like this when we’re in deep already. Hopefully Waterloo isn’t sending headhunters to Ottawa.
