This came in just before 6 p.m. from the president of the Capital Hoedown Country Music Festival, which is having some trouble securing the venue and now the talent.
Since November, we have been working diligently with the City of Ottawa on
the complex plans and logistics to bringing the event to a new venue -
Walter Baker Park in Kanata. We have made great progress and worked with
some of the best experts in the industry to develop plans that satisfy the
city and make it the best experience for our fans. The majority of that
plan is completed.
Understandably, the city needs to protect the park and the taxpayer – for
which we are in full support. The funds in question are for city
services that will be incurred by the city in August during the event.
These funds sit in escrow in a city account until they are used. For this
year’s festival, those city expenses have increased by 300%.
Normally, the city asks for these fund two weeks prior to the event, but
in the spirit of our relationship, we agreed to provide the money
considerably earlier. Yes, based on the increase in expenses, we did ask
for more time to ease the higher than expected costs. The city has been
cooperative on this request. And while we were unable to meet the
original date and extension of this past Thursday, we approached the city
this Friday morning prepared to make the payment. We remain optimistic
that the city will allow us to make the payment and allow us to focus back
on the business of planning for the event.
We are working around the clock on resolving the issues that we’ve been
faced with and on Tuesday morning we will announce the festivals future.
The main purpose of this statement is to ensure all ticket buyers that if
for any reason the festival is cancelled or incurs significant changes to
the line-up, everyone will be entitled to a full refund of their purchase.
Over the past two years we have worked hard to present country music fans
with an incredible live music experience. Our goal was to make this year’s
festival bigger and better than ever. We could not have done this without
the support of our local fans and partners and we thank you for all your
support and patience why we try to keep the vision alive.
