Soho Italia Then And Now

Here are two renderings of the proposed Soho Italia condo tower, which will be on the planning committee’s agenda next week.

The picture on the left is the original concept and the one on the right is the most recent.

Which do you prefer?

While chatting today with the architect, Rod Lahey, we discussed the “race” to build tall buildings. Lahey said, yes, there is somewhat of a competition to build tall, but he said developers are stressing quality in their investments more than ever. He called it a “change of psyche” in developers.

“They’re saying if I’m going to do something tall, I have to do something unique,” Lahey said.

“There’s always races going on, but it’s more about pride of doing something unique and different and better. Height is one thing. Quality is more important.”
