Random Encounter With Former Transpo GM

- September 10th, 2012

Just got back from a week in New York City and it’s funny who you see when you’re away travelling.

I bumped into former OC Transpo general manager Alain Mercier in Manhattan. We chatted for a bit and he said things are well in Quebec City, where he now heads the transit service. We talked about the difference between working there compared to Ottawa and he noted there isn’t the kind of public interest at meetings in Quebec City like there is in Ottawa.

Talk about night and day! Or is it day and night?

Anyway, at Ottawa City Hall it’s back to business for council and committees. Just going over the news from when I was away, I see the city has reached a deal to bring pro baseball to Ottawa. And, of course, the sinkhole on Hwy. 174 has east-enders talking.

The city’s new lobbyist registry has been recording activity. It’s interesting to see some of the subject matters, like a new Ottawa casino. Caesars Entertainment, for example, has a lobbyist signed up on the registry.
