Comments made during Wednesday’s garbage debate are still making some councillors roll their eyes in private today.
Somerset Coun. Diane Holmes wins the prize for the most memorable remark. She suggested if people are having a maggot problem in their green bins, they should just leave them open and let the birds feast on the protein.
Then there was Osgoode Coun. Doug Thompson, who before voting against the garbage changes, apologized profusely, more than once, to Mayor Jim Watson during the meeting.
“I feel badly I can’t be suppotive to you on this motion,” Thompson said during debate.
To top it all off, there was Watson giving praise to councillors for their work on the garbage policy, especially Rideau-Goulbourn Coun. Scott Moffatt.
Moffatt’s decision to try biweekly collection with his family was, as Watson put it, “ingenious.”
